Hello Jupiter Families,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. I am looking forward to meeting your child and getting to know you throughout the school year. I am hopeful that you will be able to attend one of our “Coffee with the Principal” or “Lemonade with Leadership” sessions this year. Attending will give you an opportunity to ask questions, provide suggestions and/or input about school happenings. Stay tuned for more information regarding the dates of these events.
Last year we experienced anywhere from 60-80 absences per day. We do understand that there are times when your child cannot be at school, and we certainly want you to keep them at home when they are sick. That being said, students who attend school regularly tend to perform at higher levels academically. Benefits of regular attendance include:
- Structure. When your child regularly engages in the same activities, they will be more likely to develop structure. This structure instills a better sense of time management into your child that will be useful in many avenues of their life.
- Achievement. Students who regularly attend class are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who don’t. Children are more likely to keep up with daily assignments, and are better prepared for tests and quizzes.
- Language skills. Younger students are exposed to classes and activities that are crucial for developing language. The window of opportunity for optimal language learning is small, so it is important to teach them consistently while they’re young to decrease development issues.
- Social skills. Children will participate in many social situations that are vital for understanding the world around them. Socializing with peers helps them understand social cues, social etiquette, and how to express their thoughts.
The Jupiter team has been working throughout the summer and during preplanning to prepare for the return of students. We are committed to providing your child with an academic focused learning environment where students feel safe, valued, and welcomed.
I believe that consistent communication between home and school is vital for a successful school year and will do everything in my power to ensure that you are receiving timely and informative updates from the school and your child’s teacher. If at any time you have a concern or questions, please reach out so that we can work together to address the issue.
Looking forward to a great school year.
In Partnership,
Sherie Troisi, Principal

announcements on our Jupiter Elementary School Facebook Page and our school website located at brevardschools.org/JupiterES . Please also note Brevard Public Schools website brevardschools.org is always current with important information for parents and students as well.

important updates. We continually send important messages and updates using a variety of media such as emails, texts and voicemails. If you have opted out of receiving calls, emails and/or text messages in the past and wish to be added back in, please call the front office at 321-952-5990.
ILLNESS AT SCHOOL
ILLNESS AT SCHOOL: Your child will be sent to the clinic to be assessed by clinic staff or office staff if he/she is not feeling well. We always do our best to make students comfortable and at ease, especially when they are sick. You may be requested to come pick up your child from school and it is very important for someone to be available during the school day to come if we call you to take the child home. We ask you to consider these circumstances now and make alternate plans in the event you are not available. Anyone picking up your child from school must be listed as an approved pick-up on the student registration form and health card.
*Please ensure we always have your most current contact information.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Early Checkouts:
In order to ensure a prompt and smooth early checkout experience, please plan to arrive
at Jupiter no later than 2:00 PM Monday - Thursday and 12:45 PM on Fridays. Early checkouts are highly discouraged and as such should be limited to emergencies and appointments only. Students who are consistently checked out early are missing important instructional time and are at risk of falling behind academically. Administration will be requesting to meet with parents of students with frequent early checkouts.
LATE PICK UPS
Any child not picked up on time will be sent to the Jupiter After School Program. There will be a onetime $25.00 registration fee in addition to the $25.00 Drop-In charge.

FAST Testing
In September, students in grades Pre K - 6th will be taking Progress Monitoring 1 of Florida's Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.)
Testing Dates:
Sept. 6th - 3rd - 6th (ELA)
Sept. 7th - 3rd - 6th (Math)
Sept. 12th -VPK - 2nd (ELA)
Sept. 13th - VPK - 2nd (Math)
Please review the following policies with your student before testing:
- Electronic Devices—Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, and Bluetooth/wireless headphones/earbuds, at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if the devices are turned off or students do not use them. If your student is found with an electronic device, his or her test will be invalidated.
- Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated. In addition, FDOE employs Caveon Test Security to analyze student test results to detect unusually similar answer patterns. Student tests within a school that are found to have extremely similar answer patterns will be invalidated.
- Leaving Campus—If your student leaves campus before completing a test session (e.g., for lunch, an appointment), he or she will not be allowed to return to that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.
- Testing Accommodations—If your student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a Section 504 plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL) or a recently exited ELL, please contact the school to discuss the testing accommodations that will be provided for your student.
Coach's Corner
Hello, my name is Coach Mecum, the elementary physical education instructor. I’m very excited to be back at school and looking forward to seeing and working with everyone.
Your daughter/son will have P.E. one day per week for 40 minutes. P.E. will be the same day every week. It is important that they wear proper clothing and shoes for their safety on their P.E. day. No flip flops, sliders, high heels or opened toe shoes. Students who do not wear sneakers/closed toe shoes may have to sit out of class, depending on the activity we’re doing.
Our goal is to develop a positive attitude about lifetime physical fitness and health! Units and lessons are carefully planned so that each child experiences a developmentally appropriate physical education.
Your Child's PE S.O.A.R. expectations in P.E. are:
S- Work together to stay safe.
O. Care for materials and clean-up
A- Listen, follow directions and participate
R- Be polite and kind
PE Excuse Policy:
If it is necessary for your child to be excused from participation, please send a parent, guardian or doctor signed note to me with the child.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Coach Mecum
SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
We have two parent groups at Jupiter. Our School Advisory Committee (SAC) is comprised of community members, parents, staff and administration. This committee reviews our school improvement goals and other important issues such as school safety and security. We also have a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). This committee supports our fund raising efforts and organizes amazing family fun events. Both of these committees meet monthly and all families are welcome to attend. Meeting dates are published on our school website and Facebook page. If you are interested in joining either group, please contact your child’s teacher or call the front office for more information.
