Discovery Update
March 2, 2020
A Message From The Principal
They tell us spring arrives in March and we certainly are ready for some nice days outside. Our playground has been pretty soggy this winter and has limited the area we can play in. It doesn’t hold us back though. We have been moving forward with our work through all of the exciting weather times. The walls are full of examples of student work and the progress students are making is evident.
This Spring we are looking forward to hosting many fun family events including: our Discovery Kindness Challenge, literature festival, field day, field trips, school-wide barbeque, classroom learning celebrations, and parent conferences. We hope families will be able to join us for these activities. Please check for dates and times in this newsletter as well as on our website https://discovery.fifeschools.com/ .
Our daffodils are blooming! Each year the Discovery Staff plant daffodils in the fall as we finish writing our School Strategic Plan for the year. We know that when our flowers are blooming, our goals will be finalizing also and the children will be learning and thriving. We are looking forward to celebrating student success and setting new goals at conferences this month. Our regularly scheduled conference time will be March 11th-13th. Once again, we ask that you bring your child with you to the conference appointment. This way they will be able to share their progress and be part of planning for the remainder of the school year. Please remember that you may request a phone conference or personal conference with your child’s teacher at any time.
Have a wonderful month.

Please Think of Us First
If you move or change phone numbers (home, work or cell) please remember to let the school office know. In an emergency or if your child is ill, updated contact names and phone numbers are essential.
Remember to call the Discovery office if your child will be absent.
New Homes for Used Books
Doing Spring cleaning? We would love it if you could donate your slightly used children's books to our library. Donated books will be used during our Kindness Challenge Week in April. We are KIND to the earth when we recycle! Our goal is to have enough books to let every student pick a book to take home. "New Homes for Used Books" has been a big hit in the past. Please bring in your slightly used children's books to the Library during conferences. The book give away will happen April 20 to 24. This program is another way to get books in the hands of kids so they read, read, read!
