What's Up at Washington Square
January 10, 2024
Happy New Year! 🎉
Did you set a New Year's resolution?
Dare to Care
One of the first orders of business for our SkillsUSA student organization was to partner with our level one Law Enforcement students in a community outreach project.
The classes came up with the slogan “Dare to Care”, and wanted to collect donations to support families in need. We are proud to say as a school all of our programs helped contribute, and with the support of the Thornton Police Officers Foundation, Thornton Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and SkillsUSA at Washington Square, we were able to collect countless items to help our community. As we work to get these items to Hope House: Colorado and Sparkling Kindness, we wanted to say thank you to all who made a donation and this event possible.
And, in fitting fashion to their cause, our Law Enforcement classes out-donated all other programs by many items. Great work on truly serving your community.

Student Highlight
EMT - Nathan Preator
Nathan Preator is a senior at Legacy High School.
Nathan has a unique story, as his sister was also a part of our EMT program a few years ago, so he had some inside knowledge as to why he wanted to join the program. His mother and other family members have also worked in the healthcare field. He is choosing to follow in their steps, specifically as an anesthesiologist. Nathan’s plan is to become an EMT after high school, and then work to obtain his paramedic license. From there, he will apply to Brigham Young University - Idaho for an undergraduate degree before attending medical school at the same university.
Mr. Lombardo chose Nathan because of the energy, positive attitude, and personality he brings to class. Nathan is eager to learn, and the sense of caring and servitude can be felt just by talking to him. When asked why he wanted to go into this field, he said he wants to be the person who will help others, especially on their worst day.
Congratulations, Nathan, for being January’s Student Highlight!
