SHACC
Let us help your student have a healthy new school year!
The Sault Health Adolescent Care Center is open for back-to-school healthcare needs and is scheduling physical examinations and immunizations for students of Sault Area High School and Career Center, Sault Middle School, and Malcolm School.
Comprehensive physical examinations include height/weight/body mass index, vital signs, immunization review, health appraisal, hemoglobin (females) and vision and hearing screening. The completion of a sport card and baseline concussion testing is done for athletes. (A current-year physical is one given on or after April 15 of the previous school year.) The completion of other participation medical clearance forms is also available.
An important aspect of adolescent preventative care is the identification of high-risk behaviors. The SHACC administers a risk assessment designed to address a variety of behaviors and psychosocial situations. Cara Haapapuro, Licensed Nurse Practitioner, reviews the assessment with the student privately and incorporates the findings with the thorough health history and physical to develop a plan of care. Counseling services are provided at the SHACC by Weber and Devers Psychological Services to help students develop skills needed to manage these challenging issues. Educational sessions and dietician services are also offered to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce health risks.
Students become eligible for important vaccinations prior to and during adolescents. Some are required for school. Now is a good time to get caught up on any missed vaccines.
Insurance including Medicaid is accepted. There is a sliding fee scale and Medicaid information for students without insurance. No student is denied service based on inability to pay.
