Unlocking the Possibilities!!!
Dear Friends,
For 12 years I had the privilege of working with teenagers. I loved working at the high school level. Life was never boring. Energy, enthusiasm and emotions were consistently high and ran hot 24/7. Raising teenagers is not any different. Teenagers are busy, funny, moody, hormonal, sarcastic, sometimes rude and constantly pulling on the reins begging for their independence. High School is the last controlled testing environment before your young adult leaves the nest and flies on their own. In this newsletter you’ll find easy tips on how to plug into their world and connect with your teen, while also helping them to develop those oh-so important executive functioning skills. Dr. Ross reminds us about the importance of watching sugar in our kids diet, especially their drinks, while also giving us fun easy suggestions to stay hydrated and healthy.
Time to fall back into school, healthy routines, helpful nutritious diets, and affirm communication with the ones we love!
With A Grateful Heart,

Skills for Success!
How To Connect With Teens
Just Listen - Don’t try and fix it, just be available and present. More listening and affirming than fixing and advising .... that's the key.
Validate Their Feelings - Let them know their feelings are important. Let them know you hear them and you care.
Control Your Emotions - Settle your emotions and temper so they know what it looks like to be in control.
Look For Ways To Build Trust - Give your teen opportunities to make decisions and express themselves. Create moments for them to use good judgment.
Praise, Praise, Praise and Then Praise Again - Look for the good stuff, but avoid catch phrases like, “nice job”. Be specific and genuine. “Thanks for unloading the dishwasher, I really appreciate your helpfulness.”
Be Consistent With Everything!!!! - Boundaries, warnings, guidelines, privileges …. Consistency builds trust. Your teen might not agree with you, but they will know they can depend on your actions and words.
Do Things Together - Create experiences and memories together that aren’t connected to school, extra curricular activities or chores. Connection before correction is the key!
Be The Parent - Don’t let their emotions dominate the family mood. You will never regret setting boundaries with consistency and love.
Trust But Verify - Let them know you will be following up, checking in on them, and making sure they are safe.
Let Them Struggle - When they fall, they learn to rise. Let them learn how to be strong, it’s the greatest gift you can give them, next to your unconditional love.

Parent Corner
Should I Hire A Parent Coach?
Currently I am working with several families overwhelmed with big teenage emotions and behaviors. Behaviors are needs. Punishments and consequences are a small, tiny part of changing behaviors and inspiring growth. Research tells us, if you don't dig in and figure out what the "need" is, the behaviors will not go away.
I love working with families as they navigate the process of strategic improvement and growth. I especially like working with families with teenagers, children with ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, or other neurodivergent abilities. Helping parents rediscover the joy and unique gifts of their family is a true privilege.
Hiring a parent coach is a very personal decision that should always include reflection, personal discernment, and a consultation with a parent coach to ask questions and gain insight into the process.

Health and Wellness Corner - Dr. Ross
With the summer heat and the start of Fall sports, your kids may be feeling extra thirsty and craving sodas, sugar-sweetened juices, and even energy drinks.
Did you know that excessive and over consumption of sugar-filled drinks can wreak havoc on your child's gut health, brain health, immune health, skin health, and overall health?
Are you curious if sugar could be contributing to your child's mood swings, learning difficulties, behavior, or other unwanted symptoms? If you want to learn more about the impact of sugar on your child's body and overall health, I encourage you to check out a quick and easy-to-read post I recently created: Pediatric Integrative & Functional PharmD|Clinical Nutritionist (@flourishboundintegrativehealth) • Instagram photos and videos
Now, you are probably wondering "well what are some good thirst-quenching beverages I can offer my child besides water?" Not to worry, I've got you covered. Below you can find some of my family's favorite low sugar, summer hydration drink recipes, which include:
🍊Blueberry Orange Sparkling Water
🍓Strawberry Basil Agua Fresca
