Readathon
YOU and your students have **KNOCKED the READATHON OUT OF THE PARK!!**
I'm (almost) speechless! We are have almost reached our reading goal with a total of 83,672 minutes read and smashed past our goal of $15,000. And --- a tremendous 62% of families at our school are participating! There's still time to join in if you haven't, and *THANK YOU* for your support of your kids and our WCEF-funded programs! We wrap up at the end of the week and look forward to celebrating together.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Next week is very busy as we begin parent/teacher goal-setting conferences. We appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to connect with us! Goals will not cover every area of student learning and development, but will help to focus on targeted areas. Conversations include what we can collectively do to help support students to make progress and meet their goals. I look forward to these collaborative conversations! *Note that next week's Wednesday schedule is normal, but the other days are on a shortened day schedule.
If you would like the support of a translator for your conference, please contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Kaye in the office.
Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELO-P)
We are building a new program to provide after school activities for students. We are having an information session at Murwood on Friday at 8:15am.

Keep Reading and Fundraising—WCEF Read-a-thon runs through September 30!
Students are doing a fantastic job logging those reading minutes and getting sponsors to help fund art, music, science, middle school electives, and our libraries–let’s keep the momentum going! There is still time to participate and earn prizes! Sign up to participate or check out our website for more information!
The Turkey Trot is back this Thanksgiving morning!
Home for Thanksgiving? Add Forma Gym’s 30th Annual Turkey Trot to your holiday plans. Start the morning off right and gather your friends and family for a morning run through downtown Walnut Creek! The Turkey Trot donates $10,000 to WCEF and is a big supporter of The Contra Costa Food Bank. Register here today!
We also need Turkey Day volunteers! Man a water station, or cheer on racers - we need 280 volunteers! It seriously takes a village. Grab a friend or family member (or 10!) and sign up to volunteer today. You can also email contact@wcefk12.org for more info!
Save the Date for our Fall Recycling Event!
On Saturday, October 15, swing by the WCSD parking lot from 10am-4pm to recycle your e-waste and get old documents (securely!) shredded. You’ll be supporting our schools while cleaning up around your home! Recycling fees are based on size and shredding is $10 per banker’s box. A percentage of fees collected come back to WCEF.
