πΌ SPRING HAS SPRUNG! πΊ
Walking to our LVHS fields, I noticed these beautiful trees in our parking lot. I have no idea what theyβre called, but I remember my sweet mom always saying that once they bloom, we wonβt have any more hard freezes. Since she passed, three and a half years ago, Iβve thought of her and remembered that each spring. I love these trees and what they mean to me now that sheβs gone. Every time I see one, I tell whoever Iβm with, βMy mom always said that once these bloom, we wonβt have any more hard freezes.β I love telling them because itβs my own fun fact, but more importantly, Iβm repeating something she said. It keeps her alive.
My mom was the nicest, kindest, most beautiful person in the world. She was my best friend and my biggest fan. She wouldβve loved Lago and been so proud that I work here. One of the things she wouldβve loved the most was our theatre department. She loved live theater!
We would go to One Act Play competitions and sit through every single show, and we absolutely loved it! She would write notes in her program, and weβd try to guess who would advance. She loved everything about productions - costumes, sets, singing, dancing, acting - all of it! She was always amazed at how we could truly be taken to another place by performances. She was always so impressed with all the lines the actors had to memorize. She would always look at me during shows and mouth the word, βWow!β She was always super impressed at what kids could do.
This OAP season, Iβve been fortunate enough to attend each competition. Each time, Iβve left an empty seat where my mom would sit. Each time, Iβve whispered a prayer and said, βMom, watch this!β, and each time, our students have been amazing! Iβm sad that sheβs not here but I know sheβs watching from the best seat in the house. Now Iβm the one that says, βWow!β just like she would. Again, Iβm repeating something she said. It keeps her alive.
Spring is such a beautiful time and we have so many wonderful things going on this spring. Itβs crazy busy, and the time is going so quickly. Seniors are counting down the days. Freshmen are registering for their sophomore classes. Juniors are thinking about next year. Time marches on.
Spring brings with it a sense of novelty, of fresh starts and new beginnings. The rains come and wash the world clean, and the sun warms the earth to bring about life. The hard winter is past. The bright summer is ahead. Each year, when the trees bud purple and the hills turn kelly green again, we are reminded to hope in the beauty ahead. Spring is all about hope, and I hope you are reminded to keep looking for beauty and goodness wherever you go. And, be sure to tell your kids about it. Say βWow!β so theyβll remember and keep the hope of spring alive just like my mom.
Your hopeful principal-
Janda Castillo
