This week our kindergarten students in Ms. Arezone, Mrs. Rosin, Mrs. Stitts, Miss Henrich, and Mrs. Ferrari's classes spent time reading Peter H. Reynold's books and celebrated International Dot Day. In the book, The Dot, the author encourages us to be courageous, to collaborate, and to be creative. It was fun to see all the projects that all our kindergartners, including our virtual kindergarteners, worked on to demonstrate how they are making their mark in this world!

Mrs. Karen Pasquale is our new assistant principal at Thomas Jefferson this year. She was the assistant principal at Longfellow Elementary last year and will split her time between Longfellow and Jefferson this school year. Prior to coming to Willoughby-Eastlake Schools, she was a special education teacher and an instructional coach with the Mentor Public Schools. She has been getting to know the staff and students at Jefferson and is very excited to be working at Jefferson!

Each week teachers will choose outstanding students to recognize through positive shoutouts. The students can be chosen for demonstrating acts of kindness, going above and beyond, doing well in class, etc. If chosen, the students' names will be called on the announcements and they will take a group picture to be featured in our upcoming newsletters.

We had a wonderful turn out for our virtual PTO meeting on September 15th. It was nice to see so many people in our Google Meet. We would love for you to join us for our next meeting on October 20th at 6:00 pm. Look for the link in upcoming news.

Our Mumkin sale is currently going in progress. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help benefit our students. If you would like to still order, you still have time to do so! The online order process will end on Tuesday, September 22nd. On Monday, October 5th, all the plants will arrive at Jefferson. The pick-up time will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the TJ pavilion. Please stay in your car when you arrive. If you are unable to pick up your plants on this date and time, please make arrangements with someone to have them picked up. We will not be able to hold plants for pick up at a later date.

Box Tops - Did you know that you can earn money for our school by just having your receipts scanned after grocery shopping? Just download the app and search for Thomas Jefferson Elementary in Eastlake and we can earn money for our students.

Sock/Mask Sale - The PTO will be selling Jaguar socks and masks as a fundraiser this school year. Look for upcoming information.

Picture Day will be on October 1, 2020. All students that are attending school in the building will have their pictures taken during regular school hours. Our virtual students will be able to make appointments to come in at a specific time after school on picture retake day on November 12th. More information will be coming as to how to sign up for a specific time.

• Please remember to complete your returning student enrollment information. All information needs to be submitted again. This is required by the district every school year. We will need this to be completed as soon as possible.
• There are no birthday treats or prizes such as pencils, trinkets, etc. , allowed in the building this year. We will be sure to acknowledge your child's birthday on the announcements and pictures will be displayed on the TV in our entranceway on their special day.
• Please be sure to send your child with a mask every day. Everyone is expected to bring a mask from home. We suggest that you have your child keep an extra mask in their bookbag. Please remember to send back the mask lanyards if they were left at home.
• Please remember to have your child wear shorts under a dress or skirt and we highly recommend tennis shoes to be worn for your child's safety.
• If you are planning on taking your child out of school for a vacation, you will need to put in a vacation request form. If possible please do this a week prior to your planned leave.

All students in the district will be given meals to take home for the weekend. This program is an extension of the Federal Summer Feeding Program and is of no cost to our families or to the school district. If you do NOT want to receive the meals, please complete the form linked below. Otherwise, your child will bring home pre-packaged meals every weekend.

Last Friday we celebrated Patriot's Day. Patriot Day is a United States national observance that honors the memory of those who were killed in the September 11 attacks. It was first observed in 2002.

The School of Innovation engages students and teachers in innovative approaches to problem-solving with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students receive instruction in all content areas, as well as music, art, and physical education, and much of the content is presented through a trans-disciplinary approach.
