Hello Ridgeline Families--

Little known back-story about theater… We began the year with no theater classes or a teacher/coach to lead a musical production. Outside of the contracted sound and lighting equipment, no additional theater related tools, electronics, costumes, etc… had been purchased. Our goal all along has been to try and do something, even on a smaller scale for our students to get them connected back into high school and into an activity they love. Way back in September I met Ridgeline Junior, Julia Stewart. We had our first conversation about theater and I now knew an actual student missing out on this opportunity. She also informed me “there are others”. Julia is persistent and knows the art of how to be on her principal’s radar just enough so he wouldn’t forget…! And now she’s a Lead in the musical! So, we posted the theater coaching position for an after school production regularly through the fall and early winter. I even began running a notice in this newsletter, but still nothing! One day I was talking with Mindy Hymas (now coach/parent), about something unrelated when I mentioned we didn’t currently offer theater and choir. That’s where the seed was planted and Mindy soon introduced me to Chantel Giblette (now coach, also a parent). We talked about a vision for the program, and all the logistics necessary to pull off a musical production. They shared many things I didn’t know about the theater world, and I shared with them about the business/and practical side of being a start-up program. They did some soul-searching and decided they would step in and do it! I said, “you know you’re crazy, right?” They said, “yes, we know, but we want to do this for the kids.” So in December/January they outlined a lofty plan with the goal in mind to do a full musical. In February, they began auditioning the cast and organizing a crew before we owned a hammer in the scene shop! Tonight is a culmination of so much hard work and energy from our cast and crew. What you will see when you attend the show is the product of a group of young people and their adult supports with a fierce desire to make this musical happen- no matter what! I couldn’t be more proud of them all! Hope you can all make it to a show.

Great effort by our students who are enrolled in AP courses and took the national AP exams this week. We recognize the added pressure/stress our students can feel in these moments. To help manage that our teachers in AP and many other areas have made it “kind of a thing” to recognize hard work and effort and also build in some time to relax, play, and just be together. AP-Palooza was the theme for today’s activities and fun!

Time to get a J-O-B! On Thursday, Ridgeline hosted a district-wide Job Fair. Employers from 35 different businesses were here in-person to discuss part-time and summer job opportunities with our students. Thank you to Ridgeline teacher, Mrs. Demarest, for organizing this event. KXLY did a nice story and interviewed a couple outstanding Ridgeline students (link below)!

The first CVSD Job Fair at Ridgeline High School is in the books! Our CVSD students had the opportunity to engage and network with 35 diverse employers from our community. KXLY was here to do a story about the event. The business representatives loved how our students engaged with them, and the students loved the free “swag" they received.

There were a lot of connections made for summer and future job or volunteer opportunities. We are proud of our students who came prepared with their resumes, their “webby” handshakes and good eye contact. There was also a fun photo booth provided by All Star Jump. A HUGE thanks to all of the businesses listed for participating.

The girls wrapped up their regular season placing 5th in their last GSL match and 6th overall in the GSL for the season.

We have 4 individuals who have qualified for districts, Carolyn Rose, Kate Mulligan, Reagan Rothley, and Kaydin Renken. Districts will take place on Monday and Tuesday at Liberty Lake Golf course.

Ridgeline Boys finished their first season strong finishing 3rd with Tanner Smith placing 5th with a 75! The squad has qualified to play at Districts next week at Liberty Lake GC! Great job boys!

Avery Lewis and Gabriella Longo both qualified for regionals. Gabriella Longo on the right is the GSL second seed and Avery Lewis (left) is playing today for the 3rd or 4th seed.

Way to go Falcons!

The boys tennis team this year had a great 1st year as 16 boys turned out and finished 4-5 on the year, placing them 6th in the GSL.

The team was led by Junior Tyler Baker who went 7-2 in league and made it to the District Championship. Tyler will advance to Regionals next week.

The team also had 3 doubles teams win a match at Districts, those teams were Luke Pell and Jack Rau, Evan Andersen and Brock Brito, and Kameron Lewis and Cameron Rehkow. On the singles side, Zander Palm also made it to the quarter finals of Districts. Overall this has been an amazing first season for our Falcons Tennis team who represented Ridgeline with great class and sportsmanship. Other members of the team who contributed all season were Braydon Harris, Jacob Wharton, Jordan Lancaster, Marco Lopez, Dylan McDermott, Cooper Shadd, Cannon Parsons, and Teagan Cummings.

Ridgeline DECA members Kelsie Dryden and Cayla Rickard helping Chester Elementary students prepare for Lemonade Day. Lemonade Day is designed to teach elementary students about entrepreneurship and running their own lemonade stand. This event will take place at various locations in the Spokane Valley on May 21st!

Mrs. Demarest's freshmen Leadership Development students, inspired by Houston Kraft's book titled Deep Kindness, created a display to show fellow Falcons the various ways they can show different levels of kindness through actions.

Mrs. Unland & Mr. Schilb's class put together homeless hygiene kits!

Mrs. Unland got a grant from WEA back in January to purchase the items & were able to make 105 bags!!

Rick Clark from the non-profits Giving Backpacks and Spokane Quaranteam will distribute them as they work directly with the homeless population.

After two weeks of grueling AP testing, the Ridgeline AP programs celebrated completion of tests with AP-Palooza today. During their AP classes, students got to enjoy food and games recognizing their hard work and willingness to go above and beyond by taking these challenging courses and exams.

Ridgeline administered 230 AP tests across contents including English, math, science, and social studies this year.

We look forward to continuing to grow these programs and congratulate our students on their diligence and commitment to learning!

Our Falcon artists spent a lot of time creating amazing multimedia pieces using chalk, pastels, acrylic, watercolor, text, and various other materials. The final products turned out beautiful and made for some great Mother’s Day presents!

Your Booster club is nearing the end of our first year and next month at our "Annual Meeting" we will be holding elections for all Board member positions. The positions include; President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The position descriptions can be found on the school website under the RHS Falcon Booster tab under Parent/Student

We would love to have your involvement!!!

Next Booster Club meeting is 05/31/2022 6:30 PM at the Fieldhouse Pizza in Liberty Lake

Students may request 1-2 CVVL courses. Any student wishing to take more than 2 courses must have prior approval from CVVL Administration. Demonstrated success in online courses is necessary for approval of more than 2 CVVL courses.

All courses are offered based on sufficient enrollment. Students are entered into classes based on school counselor approval (gathered by our office staff) and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

From the Attendance Desk

Reminder- School starts at 7:45am Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. School starts at 8:15am on Thursday. We are starting to see more and more students arriving to school at or after the posted start time. This is causing students to be late to 1st period. It's really important that whether a student drives to school or is dropped off, they arrive with enough time to be in class and ready to go at 7:45 (M,T,W,F) or 8:15 (Th) depending on the day. Please talk with your students about the importance of being to school and classes on time.

If your student is absent from school please call our attendance line at 509-558-3801 to excuse their absence.
