GLOW Call for Proposals

We are excited to launch this newly redesigned virtual event, formerly known as the Global Education Conference, in partnership with World Savvy. This year's conference will take place around the clock, starting at noon (UTC-6) on Friday, November 18, 2022.

The GLOW Conference focuses on developing global competencies, increasing opportunities for cross-border collaboration, preparing learners for active global citizenship, and ensuring educational equity and opportunity for all.

The conference goals are to:

1. To convene a vibrant global community of educational practitioners at all levels interested in experiential learning and the development of global competencies;

2. To provide educators with accessible, high-quality professional learning experiences and inspire creative educational innovation;

3. To showcase engaging, innovative practices in experiential and global learning and to highlight practical, actionable methods for implementing these educational approaches with learners;

4. To provide a forum for discussion of methods, goals, and learning theories related to experiential and global learning and to open opportunities for collaborative research and exploration of emerging methods, goals, and learning theories;

5. To connect educators and schools with forward-thinking colleagues and organizations for ongoing support and collaboration.
   
   

The basic conference will be free to attend, and we encourage everyone interested in experiential and global learning to submit a proposal, including first-time presenters.

Proposals can be submitted using this form until midnight (UTC) on November 1, 2022, and we will begin accepting proposals on a rolling basis starting August 15, 2022. Individuals may submit more than one proposal; companies and non-profits must be supporting partners to present.

• To present a 20-minute complimentary non-profit presentation, use this form.

• To join our partner program and present as a featured school, non-profit, or company, use this form. (Schools do not have to join the partner program to present.)

The GLOW Conference highlights important work in developing global competencies and experiential learning. One of its chief goals is to present practical, actionable steps that all attendees can take in their own contexts to implement these educational approaches.

To achieve this, we would like all proposed conference sessions to consist of 2 parts: a main theme and a section focused on actionable advice. You may split your presentation half and half between these two sections or dedicate two-thirds to your main theme and one-third to actionable advice. Your proposal should outline the content you wish to include for both of these sections:

1. Main theme (50–66% of the total presentation): Echoing most educational conferences, this section explores the theme, topic, or approach you wish to address;

2. Actionable advice (50–33%): Unique to the GLOW Conference, this section offers practical advice for others about how you’ve managed challenges with implementing this approach in your own learning context, advice for resources that you’ve found particularly useful in these efforts, lessons you've learned that have led you to modify or adapt your approaches, or references to specific communities who have helped support your thinking and work.

Short presentations of 20 minutes (half session) and long presentations of 50 minutes (full session) are available. All sessions will be hosted on the Hopin platform. You will be responsible for familiarizing yourself with this platform and reviewing provided training materials.

You can indicate up to three conference strands (or tracks) when you submit your presentation:

• Students: Developing community and collaboration among students, with an emphasis on teaching approaches, learning activities, and interpersonal practices that support the development of student voices and relationships.
• Teachers: Professional development, support, and collaborative opportunities for teachers interested in experiential learning and the teaching of global competencies.
• Curriculum and Assessment: Ways to integrate experiential learning and the development of global competencies into existing curricula, the development of curricula focused on these approaches and assessment strategies for measuring curricular efficacy and student learning in these areas.
• Leadership: Strategies, resources, community support, and collaborative opportunities for establishing and maintaining an institutional culture focused on experiential learning and the development of global competencies.
• Intercultural Communication: Ways to address cultural and communicational differences associated with cross-border collaboration and learning in order to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning community.
• Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Strategies for responding to and integrating the UN 2030 sustainability goals into curricula, learning activities, and assessment.
• Primary Education: Emphasis on the unique challenges and opportunities involved in implementing experiential learning and the development of global competencies for students in primary education, including emphases on early childhood education, child development, and privacy concerns for young learners.
• Secondary Education: Emphasis on the unique challenges and opportunities involved in implementing experiential learning and the development of global competencies for students in secondary education, including expectations surrounding standardized testing, the use of social media, and community service opportunities.
• Higher Education: Emphasis on the unique challenges and opportunities involved in implementing experiential learning and the development of global competencies for students in higher education, including professional and disciplinary expectations, internships, and cross-disciplinary opportunities.
• Experiential Education: Exploration of hands-on, project-based, maker, study-abroad, virtual exchange, and other programs and opportunities associated with experiential learning.
• Innovative Schools: A showcase for schools and other learning institutions performing at exemplary levels in the use of experiential learning and the development of global competencies with an emphasis on takeaways that other institutions can adopt.

2. Join our professional learning community and complete your profile as thoroughly as possible.
   

3. If you are already a member of Actionable Innovations Global, please make sure your profile is updated.

4. Join our presenters' group within Actionable Innovations Global to receive updates about the conference specific to presenters. This is the only place where you will receive important conference information, so make sure to join!

1. Once you have submitted a proposal, you will receive a confirmation copy of your submission. Please keep this for future reference. You will need it when you book your session.

2. Rolling acceptances will start on August 15th and will continue through November 1st.

3. Once you have received an acceptance email from us, you may select your desired presentation time from the remaining time slots (notifications will come through the Actionable Innovations Global community messaging system). You will be sent a booking link in your acceptance email.

4. Register for the conference with the special promo code sent to you your acceptance email.

5. If your proposal is NOT accepted, you will have the opportunity to make revisions and resubmit your proposal.
