Winter Weather Information
Notifications
In the case of school closure due to weather, SCS admins will notify you via text message, phone call, email, and it will be announced on social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and our website). Please ensure your contact information is correct in PlusPortals.
SCS will do its best to notify parents as soon as we can. Notifications will have between 5-9pm the night prior or starting at 5am the day of any school closure.
Snow-Related Closures
In the case of a snow-related closure, we will be monitoring the situation as it unfolds. We will be checking with local school districts, National Weather Services, and school administration to determine whether or not to close school.
Cold Weather Closures
School closures due to wind chill warnings and advisories are laid out in the link below.
D54 Bus Services
If your child rides a District 54 bus to school, please be sure to check the District 54 website (http://sd54.org) in the morning to see if they have school. In the event that District 54 is closed, buses will not run. If SCS is not canceled, you would need to make other arrangements to get your child to school.
SCS Buildings & Grounds
Please be aware that during the winter months, especially when it snows, the grounds of SCS may be slippery.
The building & grounds team will be working to maintain sidewalks and parking lot. Please walk and drive carefully on building grounds. As a reminder, SCS speed limit is around 10mph while on campus.
Recess
SCS policy is that we go out for recess until the wind chill is below 0. Fresh air really is good in these winter months!
Please ensure your children come to school appropriately dressed.
I would like to remind all of you to consider now what kind of alternative child care arrangements need to be made for your children should our school be closed for inclement weather or other related emergencies. If there is light snow coming down, please drive carefully to school. We ask you prepare to leave earlier than normal to be on time to school.
Most importantly, remember that you, the parent or guardian, ultimately make the decision whether to send your child to school. If you do decide to keep your child home on a day in which the weather is extremely inclement, the absence will be considered excused and your child will be given every opportunity to make up missed work. Please be sure to notify the office as you would for any other day your child is absent.
