WMS Weekly Warrior
November 6, 2023
Good afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
November is a fast month with plenty of things happening. This week, there is no school on Tuesday for teacher's professional learning and Friday in observance of Veteran's Day. School is also closed on November 23rd and 24th for Thanksgiving break. That doesn't leave many days until the end of the first trimester on December 1st. Now would be a great time to check PowerSchool for missing assignments that are past due.
For planning purposes, Parent Conferences are scheduled for December 11th, 12th, and 14th. More information on scheduling conferences will be sent in a separate letter. Please don't wait for conferences to contact teachers if you have concerns with grades.
On November 16th, Mr. John Ramos II will be visiting WMS. Mr.Ramos will take time from his busy schedule as assistant principal at Bunnell High School to speak with each grade individually about Words Matter, power dynamics, and diversity. Mr.Ramos is an affluent speaker, mentor, and educator recognized for his work by "One Hundred Men of Color," the nation's top African-American-led mentoring organization. He has dedicated countless hours coaching and mentoring students to become the best version of themselves.
We are looking forward to the interactive experience he will be providing our students with.
Last week in our Family classrooms, students discussed Veteran's Day and its importance to all of us. Students recognized family and friends who are veterans and could write thank you notes to them thanking them for their service. Our Music department created a video tribute to our veterans that all students watched. The staff and students want to thank our veterans we may have missed. Also, thank you, Paula Paolino, for providing the small flags in our driveway honoring our veterans.
The Woodbury Middle School Leo Club is hosting a food drive starting November 13th. Nonperishable food items may be brought to Family classrooms the entire week. The family that collects the most food will be awarded a prize from the Leo Club. Proceeds from the food drive support the Woodbury and Bethlehem food banks.
Winter sports begin next week, with tryouts for girls' basketball on Monday, November 13th, after school. Please be sure you are registered in Family ID. Boys' practice will start on Thursday, November 16th. Please see Mr. McGrath's newsletter linked below.
Please check on your student's LiveSchool points. A mini-activity will take place on Thursday for those students eligible.
Have a great week,
