Welcome back to School from Principal Fippin

Hello BCE Community- Welcome Back!


We had a fantastic first 2 days at school. The kids were so well-behaved and kind to one another. It is always great to see friends reunite and new friendships being made. We have had so much fun with our new playworks games at recess. Please read a bit more below about it.


We have had several calls from locals around our neighborhood. Please remember you can not block community members' driveways or park in red zones. You will be ticketed, and we want to promote Kindness and Respect.


Next Wednesday- 8.16- is our 1st early-out day-

- TK- 12:20

- Kindergarten- 5th grade- 1:15


We have gotten several questions about volunteers. We would love to have you, but you must complete all the required paperwork and always check with your teacher. Parents can not just show up in the classroom. All volunteers need to be pre-arranged.

Attendance Matters

We know people get sick, people get injured, and there can be family or life responsibilities and other issues that are reasonable and excused.

But if your student can attend, they need to be in school.

If your student is out for three or more consecutive days, we may request a doctor's note to continue excusing the absences.


Students who miss 3-5 days will receive a Chronic Absence letter. We will then meet with those families to attempt to support the student attending school. On the second Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet at the District Office to put a plan in place for the student's attendance. On the third Chronic Absence Letter, families may be required to meet with the County Office Student Attendance Review Board for truancy.


Our goal is that nobody ever gets that far along with truancy. We are here to help and support, but it does start at home with the expectation that your student will attend school regularly.

Making Friends Month

For August, we will focus on Making Friends around campus. Staff will be doing read-aloud, supporting students in meeting others, promoting the friendship bench, and always knowing how to play like a good Friend.

Playworks

BCE is introducing a new recess and PE structure through Playworks. The Playworks program focuses on social and emotional skill building, inclusivity, and safety through the power of play. Students will learn and play new games in PE and can play them during recess. In addition, there will be small organized group games every recess. Lunch recess will include a large group game called "Game of the Week," and we will continue to have other fun activities during recess. Students will practice the BCE way as well as kindness, having a positive attitude, and including all friends in play. For more information, please visit: https://www.playworks.org

Volunteers

We are excited to have volunteers back on campus. All volunteers need to be cleared with the appropriate paperwork from the office. The office is happy to help if you have questions about your volunteer status.

If you can volunteer this year, we would love to have you. Please speak with your teacher and office staff. All volunteer schedules need to be approved by classroom teachers before volunteers begin in classrooms.

PBIS- Bears

Positive Behavior Support will be a focus for BCE this year. We will be looking at promoting positive behavior in all ways. We will focus on the BCE Bear Way for the first month. How do we show Be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible all over the campus. Please ask your student how they are showing these behaviors. We will also be giving Bear Paws for good behavior. These will be used like cash at the student store in the coming weeks. More information is to come regarding the store, but it will be very exciting.

Hot Lunch and Bus Passes

We will continue to provide free lunch to all students this year. We do ask that you complete the application on the district webpage.


If your child will be riding the bus this year and will need a bus pass, please make sure you purchase your bus pass online here.


We would love to know who is riding the bus this year and what route they will be taking. Please complete this google form to help us know who will be riding. Please complete it for each student. We will use these lists to help with communication. If a bus is running late, we will send out an email to all families.

Drop off and Pick Up

We are so excited to see everyone, and the first couple of weeks can be very busy in the parking lot. Please be patient with everyone while we learn and remember the parking lot rules. If you are dropping off or picking up, please remember not to leave your car if you are not parked in an assigned spot. There is no parent parking on campus, all parents need to park on the street and walk in. If you drop off at YMCA before 8, you may park in the bus zone for your quick drop-off. We do not have supervision for students before 8:10. Please do not leave your students before 8:10 unattended. Staff will be out and about to help and ensure everyone is safe.
