Dear Erickson Families,

Welcome FALL weather! The cooler weather will be approaching with the first day of fall happening this Saturday. Reminder to send a fall coat or sweatshirt with your child as mornings are often cooler than the afternoons.

Please remember to sign up for the Cal's Angels MAC Walk happening on Friday, September 29th at 4:30! (see flyer below) Walk with family and friends, enjoy food and music and purchase raffle tickets to win amazing prizes all in support of Cal's Angels. See flyer below. Family MAC Walk Raffle Ticket Presale (for those who will not be able to attend and want to be a part of the raffle).

Food Collection Update: The classrooms that donated the most food items for the food pantry was:

1st Place: Miss Krzoska's Class - 163 food items

2nd Place: Mrs. Heitkam's Class- 154 food items

3rd Place: Miss Bley's Class- 150 food items

Total collected and donated: 1,364 items. WOW!!

The PTO Student Directory is in the process of being finalized. Families who have paid their PTO dues will receive an electronic copy of the PTO Student Directory. Information regarding PTO dues is listed under the PTO sections. If you do NOT want your student's information published in the PTO Student Directory, please email the principal, sjohnston@sd13.org by Friday, September 29.

Did you know that Erickson has a Student Ambassador Program to help acclimate NEW students to a new school? A group of 5th grade students are trained over the summer to help support our new students at Erickson. Together, new students and ambassadors meet throughout the school to help build school connections, learn about the school, and have FUN! This week they had a pizza party together. Thank you Miss Naples and Miss Bley who lead this fun group.

• *Please note: 1:40 Early Dismissal Days/School Improvement are on FRIDAY. Early Dismissal/School Improvement days are one Friday per month and FULL DAY students are dismissed at 1:40 while teachers are involved in professional development activities. Half-Day PM Kindergarten will attend school at their normal PM times. Preschool does not attend on early dismissal days.

Each year Erickson staff set academic and social learning goals for students. This year our school goals will revolve around reading, math, truancy (school attendance), and building a positive climate/bully prevention goals. I will share goal updates throughout the school year.

Goal Statement

Develop attendance procedures that will encourage students (and families) to be in attendance daily and therefore will contribute to students' overall academic success.

2022-2023 Erickson Attendance Update

School arrival for students is between 8:25-8:40. Students should be in school by 8:40. Students are considered tardy if they arrive to school after 8:45. When students are tardy, they are missing the classroom morning routine including the morning announcements and classroom instruction. If a child is late due to the bus, they are not marked tardy.

PTO NEWS: September 21, 2023

• The PTO directory will be emailed to those families with PTO dues that were paid for the 2023-2024 school year.

• If paying for membership for PTO, please write a separate check for PTO membership dues and not with school registration fees as the district office has indicated that it is necessary to have a separate check for PTO so there is no confusion. We appreciate it!

PTO FUNDRAISERS

• The Cherrydale Fundraiser is almost HALF WAY TO OUR GOAL! This year, Erickson student’s are able to ride in a limo for lunch if they sell 25+ items per student. Please see flyer for more info!

Welcome Erickson Parents!

We are excited to have you & your child join the Erickson Eagle family for the 2023/2024 school year! Erickson Elementary School and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) work hand-in-hand to make the most of your child’s experience at school. We ask that each family pay PTO Dues to make this possible.

The Membership Dues for PTO participation are $20 per family. This fee goes towards the cost for all classroom parties (Halloween, Winter and Valentine’s Day). It also gives you access to the online Erickson directory the PTO helps to organize. We will publish the information provided to the district (student name, address, parent email, phone number) unless you notify the school principal in writing before September 1, 2023 at sjohnston@sd13.org. Paying PTO Dues does not mean you are required to attend meetings or volunteer, but if you are interested, please see us on Information Day in August.

Wondering how else the Erickson Elementary PTO makes a difference?

• Fund Teachers Wish Lists after approval by the PTO.

• Sponsors & coordinates a Back to School Fair in August and Field Day in May.

• Organizes numerous activities & services throughout the school year such as Family Fun Nights, Hot Lunch, Book Fairs, Bake Sales, Holiday Gift Shop, School Store and School Supply Boxes just to name a few.

• Funds School Assemblies.

• Funds transportation & teachers participation in 5th Grade Lorado Taft trip.

• Organizes Teacher & Staff Appreciation activities throughout the year.

• Awards two $750 Scholarships each year to a High School Senior who attended Erickson.

Student Arrival:

Kindergarten-5 grade students can begin arriving at 8:25. Students should gather in the front of the building. Doors open at 8:30. Students should arrive by 8:40

1st, 2nd & 3rd Grade Lunch: 12:00-12:25

4th-5th Grade Lunch: 12:25-12:50

Dropping off lunches from restaurants (ie- McDonald's, Wendy's, Panera, etc.) as well as using food delivery services to drop off food (ie -GrubHub, Door Dash) is not allowed. Students should bring their lunch in the morning to school each day. Safety is our number one priority and we would like to limit visitors.
