February 6th-10th is National School Counselors Week!
February 6th-10th is National School Counselors Week! The purpose of this week is to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. This yearโs theme is HELPING STUDENTS DREAM BIG. Ms. Licona and Mr. Way have been hard at work supporting your students. CLICK HERE to see our midyear report including data from recent classroom presentations. After our presentations to all students there was an 88% increase in students who were likely to report unsafe behavior!
DID YOU KNOW: Each year Roosevelt puts on an amazing career fest where students hear community members talk about their career path! This year we will be holding our Career Fest on Friday, March 3rd and WE NEED YOU! Would you be willing to come for the day and present to our students? Also, if you know of a friend or family member that would be willing. We make it easy, we provide a template slideshow and the teachers help with classroom management. Please email nancylicona@vistausd.org or coryway@vistausd.org ASAP if you can help.

The 8th Grade Roadshow at RMS
The 8th Grade Roadshow was an opportunity for our 8th graders to learn about Racho Buena Vista HS and Vista HS. High school students came to speak about their experiences, opportunities, school programs, and perform music and dance routines. Both schools presented videos of the school, RBV brought their band, and Vista brought dancers and singers.
Go Panters and Longhorns!

Digital Citizenship in VUSD: What EVERY Family Needs to Know!
Our Big Ask: We Need You!
This year, we are asking all of our families to partner with us in focusing on the wildly important: digital citizenship. Our goal is to equip our students with the skills they need to become thoughtful, empathetic digital citizens in an increasingly connected world. At our January 10th District Professional Development Day, all staff will engaged in a two-hour training in digital citizenship. In addition, all students will take part in digital citizenship lessons, including the Five Competencies of Digital Citizenship.
We need you! The deep work of digital citizenship will take all of our collective efforts to make an impact on the digital lives of our students.
I'd like to thank the commitment of our Technology Advisory Group, and the entire VUSD staff for engaging in this important work for our students.
To jumpstart your commitment, read this entire newsletter for everything you need to launch digital citizenship with your family!
