NOTE: Change of Date!
Abby Dash
Hello, my name is Abhisri (Abby) Dash. Outside of school, I like to read, listen to music, perform Odissi classical dance, volunteer for the community, and hang out with friends. I am looking forward to an enriching career in computer science and extending my studies outside of university by getting work experience in the field and applying the knowledge to help others through community services. With all my goals in mind for what I want to achieve in university, I wish to attend a university that can benefit me in multiple ways. There are many things that I will be taking from Legacy with me as I go into the future. One of the best things is how to RISE over situations and keep rising towards the best version of myself. I also sincerely appreciate the entrepreneurship mindset that is put in the LMA curriculum. The mindset allows me to challenge what I used to know and then delve into a deeper understanding of what I am learning and be able to skillfully tackle any challenges. On top of that, I also appreciate how collaboration is a strong part of LMA. When I adjusted to the PBL (problem-based learning) structure of our school, I realized how essential communication is to school and to the real world. I feel hopeful and nervous about what my future is going to be like, and I hope to do my best through each opportunity. I feel that a lot is awaiting me in the future, and I expect my journey in the next 10 years of my life is going to be an adventurous one. In 10 years, I plan on having a successful career in computer science or data science. I also want to be active in volunteering, which includes dedicating my time to give back at LMA to help students with their queries about what it is like to be an LMA alumna. Furthermore, I want to continue my journey of being an ambassador of Odissi, the oldest classical dance of India, to stay connected with the deep-rooted culture I belong to. Most of all, I want to feel great and grateful about where I am at and help others feel the same by supporting them.

Thinking back to the first day of online learning in Freshman year, I never would have expected that my time at Legacy would yield so many meaningful relationships with my teachers and peers. Some highlights from my time in high school include competing at the 2023 VEX World Championship in Dallas, Texas, and earning third place nationally for our Virtual Enterprise team’s marketing plan in New York City. Beyond school, I love spending time outdoors or with my cats. I enjoy rock climbing, backpacking, and cycling and I am currently working as a youth coach at Sender One Rock Climbing. After high school, I plan to study Computer Science at a 4-year university. I do not have a single “dream school”. I have applied to a wide assortment of schools, both in-state and out-of-state. I do not know where I will end up, but I believe that I will have a successful college experience no matter where I attend. At Legacy, I’ve worked closely with my peers across a wide breadth of subjects, including communications, marketing, entrepreneurship, and rapid prototyping. Instead of competing against other students, I experienced how fostering collaboration leads to shared success. There is a lot of uncertainty in my future, but I am confident that everything will work out. In 10 years, I will realistically be living with my parents to save money. Ideally, I will have found an engineering job that I enjoy and I will be on track to a rewarding career. As I get older, I hope to maintain an adventurous spirit and continue to travel, learn, and explore.
SEES High School Summer Intern Program
NASA and The University of Texas at Austin Center for Space Research Summer Intern Program is a nationally competitive STEM program for high school students. The program provides selected students with exposure to Earth and space research. Interns will learn how to interpret NASA satellite data while working with scientists and engineers in their chosen area of work. Scientists and Engineers at UT/CSR are conducting NASA supported research on astronomy, remote sensing, and space geodetic techniques to help understand Earth systems, natural hazards and climate science. Housing, meals, and local transportation will be provided for those selected. A limited number of travel scholarships to Texas are available.
Interns are selected on the basis of their academic records, written application that includes written essay questions, introduction video, letter of recommendation and interest in STEM. The deadline for submitting your application for the summer 2024 internship program is February 24, 2024.
