WHAT IS CHILD TRAUMA?
Here is a wonderful article that explains child trauma, adverse childhood experiences, signs and symptoms of trauma, and links to resources to help respond to trauma appropriately.

Trauma has a negative effect on the brain, but having “reliable, safe, and caring relationships can buffer the effects of many stressors that may exist in a child’s life.”

Please encourage your child to join our book tournament!
I am so pleased to be working with the Digital Learning Coaches at both my schools on the Sweet Sixteen Book Tournament. We have just entered Round 2 with the Elite Eight books. We gave away prizes on Monday! Click here to watch the video. We hope to get even more participation in the next two weeks. All books are just a click away on the student’s device in an app called SORA.
Have them choose a book today! Round 2 ends in two weeks.
Ms. Frost - GRADE 8 ELA
7TH GRADE TEAM
MR. COBB - MATH
The next two weeks we will be reviewing for the NC Check-In. We will be completing EdPuzzles daily in preparation for this. Makeup work will still be accepted though next Tuesday as it is the last day of Quarter 3. Students will be given the opportunity to boost their grades with the daily EdPuzzles! So attendance and participation are key!
MS. NEUJAHR - SCIENCE
For this next week, students will be completing the last two chapters of their human body systems which are the Immune System and the Endocrine Systems. Students should be well on their way with finishing their third nine weeks project. This project is a total of three test grades and is necessary to have a passing grade in the class. This project will be due on the 22nd of March. Students have had 10 weeks thus far to work on it. All students were given the opportunity to work on make up work last week and the week prior to ensure they have a passing grade. If you have any questions, please let me know. Grade Alert forms were sent out last week so please check your email to see if you received a grade alert form on your students progress in all their classes.
MS. BAECHLE - ELA
For the weeks of 3/15-4/2 students will continue to read excerpts (sections of the text) from their third text of the year, ¨The Autobiography and life of Frederick Douglass.¨ Our lessons will be centered around reviewing specific standards from NC check-in two which require additional growth. Additional mini-lessons and class activities will occur including: poetry “I Am From Poem,” a social issues project of choice, color-coding text, while analyzing content to deepen understanding, while responding to text-based questions. In addition, students will take their third NC check-in between the dates of: 3/25-3/31 in ELA and Math. Just a friendly reminder that Q3 ends on Tuesday, 3/23. Please continue to turn in any and ALL make-up work for full credit. Spring recess will occur from 4/1-4/11*
Students have an opportunity to participate in the “Sweet 16 Reading Challenge,” 🏀 Independent Reading Sweet Sixteen Tournament Bracket - CCMS/FMS - Google Slides , while enhancing their love for reading! In addition students have a fun opportunity to partake in a virtual “FMS Talent Show,” 2020-2021 FMS VIRTUAL TALENT SHOW - Google Forms.Talent Show submissions will be due following Spring Break. Please check out these two links for additional information. As a friendly reminder, I will be allowing participation in either or both of these extracurriculars for individual extra credit in ELA.
Parents/guardians, please make sure to have your students check Power school regularly to see what work they are missing. It is critical that ALL students take accountability for their work, come to class regularly, and turn in work on a consistent basis. I will take any late work for full credit. In addition, students should be working on their Q3 project, which is due this upcoming Friday, March 19th. An outline of due dates and instructions are included within the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zYgp9f2Yu-1-593SMa1ueoJumVDaHnTJRta37Bk-7Xg/edit?usp=sharing
In addition, I hold office hours weekly on Wednesdays from 9:00-9:30 (C1-C2) and 9:30-10:00 (C3-C4). I have begun working with small groups of students on specific skill sets during the times mentioned above. If your student receives an email, they should do their best to attend for additional support. The code for Google meets is: fmsoffice7.
The expectation is that students are working on their I-Ready Pathways for at least 40 minutes weekly for both ELA and Math. This program utilized to increase reading comprehension and strengthen specific skill sets. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at: kimberlybaechle@fcschools.net
