OHS Families have Spoken: Improving Communications!
Thanks to those who completed the OHS Family Communications Survey! We are committed to continuous improvements in our two-way communication. We heard from many of you two areas where we can make immediate shifts. The first is how to tap ParentVue for information; the second is communications from teachers. We hope this is helpful!
ParentVue Helpful Hints
Log in: https://ca-juhsd-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx
Using ParentVue: the toolbar on the left side takes you to data points for your student (history of email messages from OHS; attendance, class schedule, report card, and more)
How to locate grades and assignments: go to "Grade Book" in the toolbar and your student courses appear. Click on any course and you'll see a week-by-week mention of assignment(s) and grades submitted.
Communication with Teachers
Academic Council reviewed the Family Communications Survey data and had extensive discussions. As a result, faculty will be discussing strategies to bolster communications with families and are committed to implementing improvements. Also, families are encouraged to reach out to teachers with questions, concerns, or updates about your student. Emailing teachers is super easy through ParentVue!
Academic Council: Weekly Update
Academic Council is the shared leadership body at OHS that is made up of faculty, staff, students, administrators and FAMILY MEMBERS/PARENTS. Academic Council (known as AC) makes decisions related to all-aspects of the school. The most important aspect of AC is that the voices of families are heard & valued at OHS.

Financial Aid Information
On Wednesday evening, Skyline College hosted JUHSD senior families for an informational evening about financial aid. Important information, changes, and application process were presented. If you were unable to attend and would like this information, not to worry! We have a recording for your convenience. Ms. Owyang will also be visiting 12th grade humanities classes at the end of the month to provide an in depth lesson about financial aid.
Here is the recording link.
Additionally, Skyline College offers financial aid workshops to support families in answering their questions and assisting them with completing their financial aid applications. All senior families are able to use this resource, even if your student does not plan on attending Skyline next year.

Support Boys Soccer
Oceana High School's Boys Varsity Soccer Team is hoping that you would support our team by donating money to our GoFundMe page. Oceana Boy’s Soccer relies on donations to fund our program and we would greatly appreciate your support! Every year we gear our profits towards transportation to and from games, uniforms, and soccer equipment. This can be quite expensive, which is why we need your help!

Introducing CaliforniaColleges.edu - 9th Graders
In the months of September and October, Ms. Holahan met with all 9th grade students during flex time to introduce californiacolleges.edu. She discussed what the platform is used for, how it can help with planning for the future, registering students for their accounts and thinking about planning courses for next school year. This is a great tool to also plan courses for future high school years, be sure students are on track to meet 4 year college eligibility, and research colleges and careers.
We encourage our families to ask their students to show them what they learned about the platform and how to navigate it from home! Click here for the lesson.
4 Year Grad Plan - 11th Graders
In September Ms. Holahan and Ms. Owyang met with 11th grade students to do group lessons during flex time about 4 year graduation plans. They discussed Californiacolleges.edu, how to use the platform, discussed what a 4 year grad plan is, and considering/planning out courses for senior year. After the lesson, students were asked to sign into their californiacolleges.edu accounts and start to map out what courses they plan to take next year. As a reminder, students did not request/register for any course, but just created a plan for what they need for graduation and to be 4 year college eligible.
Here is the lesson slides.
