VUHS September 15th, 2023
Principal Message
We hope all of you who made it to the Playing Fields and Open House event had a fantastic time. It was so wonderful to see the community enjoying the building and watching an amazing performance.
Thank you so much for the drop-off/pickup/ bus transportation changes. The morning has continued to go really well. The afternoon has been crowded and we have been out there to help direct traffic at the busiest spot. Families, you can continue to help by filling in both lines of the horseshoe and using the entire horseshoe to pick up your scholars.
We have a very busy week ahead. We will start of the week with Fastbridge testing. This test is for Reading and Math. Each test takes up to 30 minutes for students to take. We will take the English test on Monday and the Math test on Wednesday. Every student in grades 7-11 will take the test. If you have more questions about the test do not hesitate to reach out.
Peace One Day is this week on Thursday, September 21st. Peace One Day is an international day. "Peace One Day's objective is to institutionalize Peace Day 21 September and create a more just, inclusive, sustainable, and peaceful world." Full Send has planned an afternoon of speakers and activities. We are so excited to keep this tradition alive at VUMHS.
Homecoming is also this week. The class of 2024 picked the theme of biomes this year and we are so excited to see what the scholars come up with for their floats.
Here is what we are looking for from the community for support:
- Each grade level needs a hay wagon and a driver. You can reach out to me if you are available and I will connect you with the class advisor.
- Pallets for the bonfire. Feel free to drop them off and add them to the bonfire area.
- The Class of 2026 is hosting the Homecoming dance. They are looking for food and drinks, and to help set up between 10:30 and 12:00 on Saturday 9/23, and to help tear down on Sunday, 9/24. To sign up to help, you should fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdX3SBV--NA4Aq39b2_uHHQ_53o4WF4Y6TUaB2brBNdMPuYww/viewform
- If you have questions about the Homecoming Dance and volunteering please reach out to Chris Wyckoff.
We are also excited that the German Exchange will be here for this week!
Some events that are coming up in the next few weeks are:
- Early Release Day - 10/4/23
- Indigenous People Day/No School - 10/9/23
- Picture Day - 10/13/23
Way to go Commodores! We hope to see you at the parade on Friday or the Homecoming games on Saturday.

College Rep, Career Rep, and Military Recruiter Visits @ VUHS:
College and career reps as well as military recruiters will be visiting VUHS throughout the school year during lunchtime in the cafeteria. Vermont college/university reps may also have a Q&A session in the school counseling conference room during compass 5&6. Students are strongly encouraged to attend these Q&A sessions if they are the least bit interested in the schools that will be represented. Of note, there will be Q&A sessions for Vermont State University (Vermont Tech, Castleton, Northern VT University) on September 19th and for UVM on October 12. The document that contains these visits gets updated frequently - scan the QR code, posted around the school, and/or bookmark the document so you check it on a regular basis. The document also includes other college visit information not at VUHS, for example college fairs, etc. We also receive many posters regarding colleges/universities holding open houses. Those are posted on the walls outside the school counseling office, be sure to check those frequently as well. College, Career & Military Visits at VUHS 23-24: Information regarding what college and career reps as well as branches of the military will be visiting can be found on the College & Military Visits 2023-2024 document. If you have any questions, please check in with the school counseling office.
