Hello Spring!
Well Minded Matters
Seasonal Solutions
Spring is an exciting time of year for children. Sports and outdoor activities, field trips, spring break, and the countdown to the end of the year begins. Spring can also be an anxious time for children. Standardized testing, schedule changes, busyness, and the countdown to the end of the school year begins. As we enjoy the longer days and additional sunlight, it's important to note that this exciting transitional time can also be one of stress. This issue of Well Minded Matters focuses on tips and tricks to finish the year strong (and have some fun too).
10 Ways to Manage or Avoid Stress
Prepare for the morning the evening before (ie: prepare lunches and pick out what clothes to wear the next day)
Make a manageable “To Do” list (create a list of 3 to 5 items, check them off as you complete them)
Make a plan B just in case things do not go according to plan (If our preferred restaurant is closed, we’ll make tacos or If we get split up, we’ll meet at this spot)
Practice deep breathing (When you begin to feel your body tense up, pause and breathe in slowly for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, then breathe out slowly for 4 seconds…repeat this a few times until you start to feel your body relax.)
Write in a journal or diary daily or when you have anxious or stressful thoughts-put them on paper and walk away from them until you feel less stressed
Practice positive self talk- avoid falling into a cycle of being over critical of yourself
Unplug from screen time and social media an hour before bedtime
Move your body for 30 minutes a day (go for a walk, play with the kids, dance, workout etc.)
Schedule your day and events based on their level of importance (think about your top priorities in life and allow yourself to say no to some things that do not match your priorities)
Create and stick to daily routines during the busy work week, but also allow yourself some grace when you get off schedule

Final DHK Event of the Year Human Trafficking 101
Although no one is immune to potential exploitation, certain circumstances or life experiences may increase vulnerabilities and, as a result, increase the risk of exploitation. All individuals have needs in order to survive and thrive. This includes basic needs, physiological (food and clothing), safety (physical, emotional, financial), love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. When these needs are unmet, it can lead to a person being vulnerable.
At this presentation learn:
1. What does human trafficking really mean?
2. Where is it happening and what do we know?
3. What are risk factors and red flags?
4. What can I do now? (starting conversations and scenario skills practice)
Kent Intermediate School District's HTYPE Team will be presenting this important information.
