We are fortunate to live in a big city with lots of FREE summer reading activities to enjoy! Check out some of the opportunities below.

Students and teachers who participate in the reading challenge will receive a FREE Patriots Read Woke t-shirt and have their picture displayed on the Read Woke window in the library. To earn the shirt, students and teachers will read a Woke book of their choice from the Woke list and create a Book Bento Box to display in the library in August. Additionally, students or teachers will choose a second Woke book of their choice, from the list or one that meets the Woke criteria, and write a review as well as explaining why it should be on the Woke list for our 2019-2020 Patriots Read Woke book club.

Patriot students and faculty may check out up to 10 books to take home for summer reading. These books may include Read Woke books, but they don't have to. This is an opportunity to check out those books that you just didn't have time to get to during the school year because you were so busy with school work or teaching! Now is the time to enjoy! So come by the library the week of May 28th to get your books. Students may pick up the summer reading form in the library beginning the week of May 13th, and they are welcome to preselect their books.

SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Returning April 25, 2019, SYNC will give away two complete audiobook downloads a week - pairs of high-interest titles, based on weekly themes. In 2018, 32 titles were given away over 16 weeks.

SYNC is sponsored by AudioFile Magazine and titles are delivered through the OverDrive app. In advance of accessing the program, download the app in advance to whichever device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go!

Sign-up to get notifications when the FREE audiobook downloads are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday at 7 A.M. EST when the program is running.

If you haven't joined Bibliotech, Summer is a great opportunity! You can register online, check out e-books, audiobooks, and movies, all from the comfort of your home. Join the Summer Reading Mission to win a cool prize! Members may also visit one of the three branches to use their free wi-fi, Nooks, and Kindles.

Read to win a FREE t-shirt from the San Antonio Public Library! Sign-up at your local branch, and read 8 books, attend 8 activities at the library or a combination of the two. It's that simple! Here's a link to the summer activities.

B&N will kick off their Young Adult book club this June. It is "a national monthly book club designed to bring together young adult readers to discuss some of the most anticipated YA books being published. To kick-off the book club, Barnes & Noble is announcing three exciting debut authors for discussion this summer. The free YA Book Clubs will be held the second Thursday of each month at the Company’s stores nationwide, led by expert booksellers, and featuring special in-store promotions and giveaways, while supplies last." Earn another free book from Barnes & Noble by reading and recording eight books this summer. They have a specific list of books from which to choose, depending on the child's age group. Here is the link to the list of books. Take your completed journal to any B&N location by August 31, 2019.

Read and log 15 minutes per day, reading a minimum of 300 minutes this summer, to earn your Bookworm Bucks from Half Price Books. Download the form HERE. All prizes must be claimed by August 29, 2019.

Mrs. Thompson will be on campus until Thursday, June 6th and return on Monday, July 22nd. If you would like to check out a book from the Patriot Library from June 3rd-June 6th or July 22nd - August 12th, please call first at extension 18030. Mrs. Thompson also serves as the district's lead librarian, so she is in and out of the Patriot library quite frequently. Enjoy your summer of reading and fun!
