Reminders---
What will 23-24 at MVS look like?
There will be a few changes for MVS or the 23-24 school year to help us become even better!
- 2nd-8th grade will have a mandatory weekly Zoom at a set time to get the week's instruction started off well. Your student may be invited to other Zoom meetings throughout the week, as needed for more pinpointed academic instruction.
- World Languages courses 1 and 2 will mostly be scheduled together within the same year to help with skill retention between the courses. Onsite testing and some Zoom meetings may also be required to practice communicating in the new language.
- The Academic Support Center for 9-12 is a place where certain students who need more academic or organizational support are invited to attend by admin, when needed. It will also continue to be a place for on-site testing, as specified by your teachers.
- We have many interventions for struggling students, but next year these may include moving from weekly assignments to daily assignments.
As you experienced this year, we will continue to make tweaks throughout the year as we find ways to better serve our students.
Summer School: Grades 2-7
Summer School invitations for grades 2-7 have already gone out to certain students. Thank you to all that responded. Please be on the lookout for specific information coming from Mrs. Katie Kite.
Summer School: Grades 8-12
In high school, students must earn certain credits to graduate. (See list of graduation requirements here on page 12). To earn a credit for a course, a student must pass the class with a 60/D average or better. If the student fails the course with an average below 50, the entire course must be taken again, or some entire core courses can be retaken in summer school. If a student has an average between 50 and 60, then the student may have the option of taking an abbreviated core course during summer school, just focusing on the deficient standards, to recover the credit and receive a passing score of 60/D for the course. For more information on credit recovery, see here on p. 16.
Thus, you can look at your student’s current averages and consider if he/she will be getting information about Summer School. Summer School for grades 8-12 will take place on-site at Maryville High School. Courses available at Summer School are only the core graduation requirements including English, math, science, and social studies. As soon as we receive more information on Summer School, we will send it out directly to the invited students.
