The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. The PSAT/NMSQT has three tests: the Reading Test, the Writing and Language Test, and the Math Test.

The test is open to all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders.

In order to sign up, we need two items:

1. Complete the form below

2. Pay by check or money order

The cost is $17. Payment can be made to Mrs. Sadler in the Counseling Office (check or money order - no cash, please). Checks need to be made out to Blackman High School. If you are a distance learner, please mail your check to Blackman High School and address it to the attention of Mrs. Sadler.

There are a limited number of PSAT testing slots available on a first come, first served basis, so be sure to make your payment as soon as possible. Students can pick up study materials from Mrs. Sadler when they sign up and submit payment.

A prep course will be offered before school after Labor Day. Stay tuned for more details. All students who are taking the test are invited. Distance learners will be able to participate through Zoom.
