This is the final Newsflash for Term 3, 2022.

A huge thank you to our wonderful staff, our hard working PTFA and our very supportive BOT. We look forward to announcing our new BOT next week.

This has been a very full on term and there have been challenges along the way but we have journeyed together. He waka eke noa, we’re all in this together.

The culmination of our Cultural Week last week with a beautiful Marist Cultural Mass spoke volumes of who we are as a community. We are faith filled, we are joy filled and we are a melting pot of cultures. Though many, we are one! A huge thank you to Ms Marie Walker, Fr Carlo and our gorgeous tamariki for an amazing Mass.

Today, Friday 23rd Sept, I go on leave for a month. Like many of you I have had a trip planned since 2019 and it will now come to fruition in 2022. I head off to Prague and then onto Croatia, Venice & Milan with lots of exciting experiences awaiting me. I return to school on Tuesday 25th October.

I wish you all the very best for a restful, fun filled holiday break (when it arrives) and want to thank you all for your ongoing support of your tamariki and their learning journey at Marist School. I look forward to seeing you all in Term 4 and at the Quiz & Fizz hall fundraising gathering. Get your tickets!!!

Today it is ‘Cans for Christmas!’.

During Covid people donated money or grocery vouchers instead of cans because of restrictions. $10,000 was raised for Saint Vincent De Paul.

Cans for Christmas is a simple way to make a change.

We feel thankful and proud that we are able to help the St Vincent De Paul Society who then help those in need.

‘Cans for Christmas’ was established in 2015. There are 47 schools, both catholic and non catholic schools, helping and donating,

People gather cans of food together for people who don’t have any. A truck comes and it takes the cans to the St Vincent de Paul food bank.

This is the 7th year running. Seeing all of the cans makes us grateful that we are able to help people in need.

Thank you to St Vincent de Paul for organising Cans for Christmas.

Please keep the Bowes and Chan families, and all those who have lost loved ones, in your thoughts and prayers at this time. We continue to pray for those in our community who are unwell or suffering at the moment.

You may have noticed that we have had to close half of the gate on Alberton Ave as adults have been driving into the staff car park and turning into the driveway while children are walking through.

This is a Health & Safety issue and ONCE AGAIN you are asked to please not turn into the driveways on either side of the school.

Please pass this message on to anyone who collects or drops off your child/ren. Our children are precious and can easily go unnoticed around our driveways.

PLEASE adhere to this request. It is getting so dangerous out there!

QUIZ AND FIZZ NIGHT!

Are you in a team? We need as many of your faces at the Marist Gym on 29th of October to ensure that our Quiz and Fizz night is a success. This is a great opportunity to meet new members of the Marist community, and to catch up with old friends. So grab some friends together and book a table, or join one of the Hub tables where you can meet other parents in your child’s Hub.

Proceeds from Quiz and Fizz Night will go towards the much needed renovation of our school hall. This is our major fundraiser for the year - please get behind it and enjoy a fabulous night out!

AUCTION ITEMS AND PRIZES

Thank you to those families who have already donated prizes – we are so grateful! We are still looking for items to auction for our Quiz and Fizz night. This will be our major fundraiser for the year, with all funds going towards our school hall upgrades. Do you have a bach which you would be happy to make available for a weekend? Do you have access to an experience or activity which could be auctioned? Do you have sporting memorabilia, or do you own a business which could provide a service as an auction prize? Would any of your child’s after school activity providers be willing to donate vouchers? All prizes, big or small, are needed and appreciated!

MARIST MOVIES

Thank you so much to all the families that attended our 'Marist Movies in the Hubs' afternoon last Sunday. It was wonderful to see so many here catching up, enjoying the sunshine and some great movies! So wonderful to be able to meet as a community again.

Here's to many more Marist whānau get-togethers!

SPRING RAFFLE

What an amazing response we have had to our spring raffle! Thank you so much to all those who have returned their raffle ticket books.

If you still have your tickets at home please return them, sold or unsold, to the school office by Tuesday 27 September. You don't want to miss out on being in the draw for these amazing prizes!

MARIST DADS CATCH UP!

With the disruption of Covid the past few years, and the busy lives everyone leads, the PTFA recognises that there have been less occasions and events for members of the community to meet with, and get to know each other as there has been in the past.

In the past Marist dads have had informal catch ups, and so we will be having another one on Friday the 14th October at the Morningside Tavern from 6.30pm. Whether you are a new, existing, or even a past Marist dad, feel free to come along. It will be a chance to meet new people, and renew old friendships. All Marist dads are welcome!

At Marist School we use Spotlight to upload and share your child/rens ongoing progress and achievement throughout the year. The last couple of years have been so disruptive but it is really important that you download the APP in order to see your child’s learning progress.

If you have not set up your Spotlight App yet or have not been using it, please contact Beth in the office on b.lockie@marist.school.nz for your unique ID. Once you have your ID you will be able to follow the instructions below to set up the app.

On Tuesday our Marist team of Years 3-6 boys and girls raced against Catholic schools across Auckland at the Catholic Schools Cross Country event. The children put in the mahi for weeks leading up to it, which paid off to combat a very challenging course with the famous ‘Killer Hill’. Our value of hautoa -courage- shone through when they successfully completed it with many strong finishes. Below the top ten placings out of a run of 55 children in each race:

Tinkercad is a free, easy-to-use tool for 3D design, electronics, and coding. It's used to imagine, design, and make anything!

Hub 1 used Tinkercad to design solutions to problems in our Marist school environment related to biodiversity. We planned and designed our innovation and then created a prototype using the 3D modelling tool Tinkercad.

This year we are continuing with Marist Meals - a pastoral care initiative. These meals are provided to families in the school & parish community when a little extra support is needed (e.g. a new baby, sickness, bereavement). With the impact of covid and many of our school and parish families isolating or unwell, it would be great if we could fill up the freezer so we can help lighten the load for families during these challenging times.

If you would like to contribute, we welcome any homemade, brought meals or baking for our freezer. Meals can be dropped off to the school office.

St Mary's Parish Foodbank is feeding nearly 2000 a month. PLEASE remember them when you are shopping - they are in desperate need of donations! Anything you can contribute will be very much appreciated.

We are seeking to recruit a proactive and committed Archivist/Archives Manager/Privacy Officer.

This role is full time and provides an exciting opportunity to manage and utilise our Archive Collection by providing appraisal, recording and direct safekeeping of permanent records and historically valuable Church documents and Museum Artifacts. The role also has co-responsibility as Privacy Officer for ensuring the Diocese complies with the Privacy Act 2020.

We’re looking for a people person with demonstrated experience and knowledge of established practice in Archives (appraisal, cataloguing, accession, standards of care and storage of art and artifacts). Knowledge of operation of museums, libraries, heritage management and information/records management. Sound understanding of digitisation systems and awareness of relevant IT development. Excellent research capabilities and with relevant degree with a tertiary postgraduate qualification in Archives, Records, or Information Management.
