Celebrating the Whole Child in January
In the month of January, we are celebrating the Whole Child — an effort to transition from a focus on narrowly defined academic achievement to one that promotes the long-term development and success of all children in grades K-12.
The Whole Child approach is part of our SBLSD Future Ready Goal 2 to create nurtured, engaged and empowered students who attend school regularly in a supportive and challenging learning environment where they are empowered to exercise an active voice in their own growth.
School staff support the health and wellbeing of each child by:
Promoting an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults.
Using best practices to actively engage students in learning.
Providing support for students’ academic, social and emotional learning.
Challenging students academically to prepare for their success beyond high school.
You can help your child’s development beyond academics. Click here for a daily calendar of activities, or visit sumnersd.org/WholeChildMonth for more resources and information.
Attendance waiver application due Jan. 27
Attendance waiver applications for the 2023-24 school year must be submitted by Jan. 27 for optimal consideration. Waiver applications submitted after Jan. 27 may be considered if it’s determined that grade level and building capacity allows. Visit the Attendance Waiver webpage for the types of waivers, timelines and more information.
