Lawrence Onward # 9
Update from August 21, 2020
Virtual Community Circles
This past week Lawrence held seven virtual community circle meetings for our families to explain reopening plans. We are grateful to the families for asking great questions and making an informed choice for September instruction. Over 35% of our families have selected Full Remote instruction.
The recordings of virtual circle meetings are posted on Lawrence.org . Being able to connect remotely may be one bright spot from this health crisis. Lawrence expects to offer more virtual parent circles as school gets under way.
New bathrooms at 195 Broadway
The capital improvement project at the 195 campus includes phase 1 of air conditioning, new bathrooms, renovation of the gym areas ( planned pre- pandemic), and additional security entrance. This multi-million dollar project is the first update to those areas in over 50 years and is a sign of the District’s commitment to excellence.
Standing at the ready
This summer the district has purchased a tremendous amount of supplies to keep the environment as healthy and safe as possible. Our hand sanitizers stand at the ready like solders and will reinforce the 3w’s
Wear a mask , watch distance, wash hands ( use sanitizer).
Reconfigured grade levels
Among all the activity and changes this summer, the third grade and kindergarten moves took place. We have much gratitude to all our teachers and facilities department for their work transforming classrooms to meet the social distancing and health requirements of the times. Those impacted by the density reconfiguration get an additional dose of gratitude.
Full Remote, Hybrid (In Person/Remote)
The Lawrence District has created plans that allow us to adapt and adjust to changes in the infection rate and react to any cases of infection in our school buildings. Our remote teaching model and all of our models will continue to provide our learners with exceptional educational opportunities to advance their skills and allow them to reach their potential.
Full Remote learners will be invited to a Virtual Orientation and a special communication email will be set up remote families from each school. Approximately 35 percent of Lawrence families have selected Full Remote instruction.
New Health app coming
Everyone who comes into the school building will be required to complete screening prior to arriving. The environment of our buildings must be treated as seriously as a hospital. Wear a mask, watch your distance, wash your hands. This firm rules will show the kindness to others as we respect one another’s health.
Antibody Testing

Expect the unexpected.
Along with our increased knowledge of virtual learning and virtual meetings, the pandemic has taught us all to adjust to change. Our guiding principle of health and safety continue to make this a fluid, or ever- changing, situation. As we move into September please know we are well prepared to adjust our plans if needed. Safety first. Education second. We are committed to both.
