Turkey Trick or Treat by Wendi Silvano
Everyone loves Halloween candy --even Turkey. But how can he and his barnyard friends get any when the farmers only give it out to children? With a costume, of course! As his pals look on, Turkey comes up with one clever costume after another. Each trick gets better and better...but will Turkey and his friends end up with any treats?
Lost Or Damaged Library Books
What happens if you have a lost or damaged book from the library? At this time, our library doesn't accept money for lost or damaged books. However, we have a few options for you to choose from that will take care of the lost or damaged book that does not require payment.
Your options include:
The library will accept a replacement book that is new or gently used. The replacement book doesn’t need to be the same book as the one that was lost/damaged. We will accept any replacement book that is appropriate for pre-k and in good condition. Please send replacements to the child’s teacher with a note letting them know it is a replacement for a lost/damaged book. OR
You can “read away” your lost/damaged book. With our Read Away Lost Books program, read to your child each night, mark it on the reading log, sign the log, and return to your child’s teacher or librarian. If you choose this option, please let your child's teacher know so they can send home a reading log. OR
You can send in two non-perishable food items to replace a lost/damaged library book. Send the two food items and a note explaining they are to replace a library book to your student’s teacher.
Reading Tip of the Month
Why Should You Read To Your Child?
There is no more important activity for preparing your child to succeed as a reader than reading aloud together. It's no secret that activities at home are an important supplement to the classroom, but there's more to it than that. There are things that parents can give children at home that the classrooms cannot give (Reading Rockets).
Spending time together while reading aloud helps to create strong parent-child bonds and promotes healthy brain development. Children that are read to more often have improved language and listening skills, experience stronger emotional connections to their loved ones, and gain a lifelong love of reading (Reach Out & Read).
Make time to read everyday, but don't be too hard on yourself if some days you can't read together. Create a reading routine, such as reading before bed, to help make it easier to read together while providing consistency that develops deeper bonds and helps young children feel safe.
