As a proud alum, I encourage you to consider enrolling your young learner(s) at Father John V. Doyle School. I have worked in education for 15 years, and in my experience, there are three factors parents should take into account when selecting a school for their children: class sizes, how well the school prepares the students for the next level, and the school community.

At FJVD parents can be assured their students are receiving the attention that will help them to reach their full potential. The class sizes at FJVD are much more manageable as compared to the over crowded public school counterparts. These smaller class sizes give the teachers of FJVD the opportunity to differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners. Most public schools strive to meet the needs of all learners but due to over crowding this is just not possible. Crowded classrooms lead to burnt out teachers, discipline issues, and lack of individual attention to student needs. This will not be a concern at FJVD as they are able to keep their class sizes at more appropriate numbers for the benefit of their students.

Father John V. Doyle School is the foundation on which my academic career was built. The teachers at FJVD have high expectations for their students and expect each student’s best. Having this mindset instilled at such a young age is what propelled me through my academic accomplishments. After completing my FJVD career from years K-8, I went on to Bishop Hendricken, earned a bachelor’s degree at Springfield College, and a masters degree at Johns Hopkins University. All of this was possible because I was given a strong start early on in my academic career. Father John V. Doyle School provides a rigorous curriculum that will have students well prepared for the next steps in their scholarly journey.

In a increasingly contentious world, where little attention is given to the soft skills (respect, manners, empathy etc.) that many students lack, it is important for parents to know they are sending their students to a school with an enriching and supportive community. Father John V. Doyle School provides a community where families feel safe, where members are valued, and where Catholic values are taught and modeled. The educators of FJVD understand that there is more to education than just math and reading. FJVD is preparing students to be productive citizens by providing a rigorous education wrapped in Catholic values. When students leave FJVD they are prepared academically and morally to face the challenges ahead of them.

I strongly recommend enrolling your student(s) at Father John V. Doyle School. The educational experience they will receive will benefit them greatly. They will be prepared for a competitive educational career, they will have the support of a caring and enriching community, and they will be taught the values that will help them to become responsible citizens.

We have been busy planning for Catholic Schools Week which will be held at the end of January!

The week will begin with Mass on Sunday January 27, 2019 at 11:30am. We hope all of our school families will be able to attend and celebrate together!

We are currently seeking student volunteers to be ushers for this Mass. Ushers are needed at the doors of the Church to greet people and hand out programs. If you would like your son/daughter to participate, please send an email to Mrs. Smith. We are all set with enough students to read and to bring up the gifts at offertory.

ALL STUDENTS who attend this Mass dressed in full school uniform will receive a no-uniform day in February.

NCEA is pleased to present this year's Many Gifts, One Nation: A Day of Giving to Catholic Schools. Scheduled for January 29, 2019, 12 PM EST toJanuary 30, 2019 12 PM EST, this is a time for parents, grandparents, alumni, students, friends, business and community partners to give to their local Catholic school. This national day of philanthropy and camaraderie invites all people who have benefited from a Catholic school education to donate at a local level.

The winner of this raffle will choose one of the following great experiences: Napa Valley Wine Tour, Viva Las Vegas, or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Your three night/four-day trip includes roundtrip main cabin airfare for two and deluxe hotel accommodations. Each trip is valued at $5,000.00. Tickets are $100 each and a limited number of tickets not to exceed 100 will be sold. Tickets can be purchased in the school lobby on Friday mornings from 7:45 – 8:15, or after Sunday morning masses in the lobby at the Parish Center entrance. More detailed information about each trip can be found in the lobby.

Registration forms for students interested in Soccer and Volleyball are still available!

Both Soccer and Volleyball are Co-Ed.

We will have a team this year for each sport and each division!

And, yes, it's not too late to join!

• Grammar Volleyball - grades 6-8

Rhode Island Families for School Choice will hold two events in January. An Open Parent Meeting will being held on January 23 from 6:00-8:00PM at the Providence Hebrew Day School, 450 Elmgrove Avenue, Providence, RI. Keynote Speaker is Zeus Rodriguez, Community Activist and Policy Advisor for parents. The Annual Legislative Reception will be held on January 24 from 2:30-5:00PM at the RI State House.

The next School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday January 29, 2019 in the rectory conference room and the Open Session will begin at 6:30pm. Space in the conference room is limited. For seating purposes, please let Mrs. Smith know if you plan on attending. Thank you!

Snow days and delays for Father John V. Doyle School are announced through the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association. FJVD follows the Coventry public school system snow days and delays. Before Care opens at 8am on a Delay Day.
