A Message from Principal Stephens
Dear Patterson Families,
Happy New Year to all of our PRIDE families! The New Year brings a fresh start and a bright future for our second semester of school. This is a great opportunity for parents to encourage children to set goals and commit to a renewed focus on meeting or exceeding those goals. Part of our Patterson vision states: we have a "VISION of excellence in every endeavor involving students' academic, physical, emotional, and social growth". We are dedicated to teaching the whole child, and hopefully some of our students' goals will go beyond the focus of academics. A simple goal of showing kindness can be positively powerful. As always, we thank you for your involvement with homework, character building, daily reading, math practice, and providing support for a variety of school activities. As a team, we will help students meet any goals they have set in order to help create confident individuals.
Second semester we will look forward to adding "Celebrate Learning Nights" on our parent teacher conferences days in February. Before or after your scheduled conferences, you and your child can walk around the campus to see class displays of writing, art and projects to celebrate their learning. We are also excited that each grade level will be planning a "Career Week" in order to bring awareness and inspiration to the many career paths the students will have.
Thank you for choosing to send your children to our “Grade A” school and district. We look forward to another exciting semester of learning, growing, and bringing our community together. Welcome back to school and best wishes for an inspiring 2024!
Warmly,
Sarah Stephens
Patterson PRIDE Principal

GIFTED (C.A.T.S.) TESTING
Arizona legislature mandates special programs to be provided for gifted pupils. Our Gifted Self-Contained Program and Gifted Consultative Services fulfill this obligation for CUSD elementary children. On site testing for placement in our gifted program for the 2024/2025 school year will begin in January.
2nd Grade CogAT On-site Testing – January 16th – 26th
1. All 2nd grade students will be tested (please see attached letter)
3rd-6th Grade CogAT On-site Testing – January 16th – 26th
2. All 3-6th grade students interested in testing need to have permission and be pre-registered for testing.
Teachers or parents may request testing for any 3rd through 6th grade students for the gifted program.
The permission form can be found attached and on the Gifted Testing webpage: https://www.cusd80.com/Page/99460
Tax Credit Donations
Tax credit donations can be made anytime and can be credited to your child's extra curricular activity fees. The tax credit reduces your tax burden to the state of Arizona, dollar for dollar. It also reduces your taxable income to the federal government.
Our school uses tax credit donations for enrichment opportunities such as fieldtrips, assemblies, art masterpiece, clubs and many other activities.
To donate, visit the tax credit donation page on our CUSD website: Click Here or contact Shelley Krason, office manager at Patterson Elementary for more information and/or to donate at the school by cash or check. 480-224-3607; krason.shelley@cusd80.com
Thank you so much for your support of Patterson Elementary Students.

Happy New Year from the Patterson library!
As we set goals for the new year remember to include more reading for you and your children.
"Studies have shown that those who read for pleasure have higher levels of self-esteem and a greater ability to cope with difficult situations. Reading for pleasure was also associated with better sleeping patterns. Adults who read for just 30 minutes a week are 20% more likely to report greater life satisfaction."*
As soon as we come back to school, invitations will be sent out for the next Birthday Book Club, celebrating January, February and March birthdays. These are due back on January 23rd so that we can plan the celebration on Friday January 26th. This school year we have already had around 150 new library-bound books donated to our library through Birthday Book Club!
We are excited about our next Scholastic Book Fair which has been moved to the week of February 9-16, 2024 this year. Be on the lookout for the volunteer sign up and class shopping schedule coming soon.
