Abraham and Isaac
What's the hardest thing you've ever had to do?
God kept His promise to give Abraham and Sarah a son in their old age. They followed God’s command to name him Isaac, which means “he laughs.” And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me” (Genesis 21:6). Years passed, and Isaac became a young man. One day, God asked Abraham to do the unthinkable. God said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” This was no laughing matter. Isaac was the promised heir, the offspring with whom God had promised to establish an everlasting covenant. What would Abraham do?
Opening Prayer

Talk about it
- What test did God give Abraham?
- Who provided (gave) the lamb for the offering?
- What sacrifice did God make for us?
- How does God continue to provide for us?
God tested Abraham’s faith and obedience to Him by telling Abraham to give his son Isaac as a sacrifice.
God provided the lamb that Abraham would sacrifice instead of his son Isaac. Abraham had shown that he loved and trusted in God more than anything or anyone, even his beloved son Isaac.
Many years later, God would sacrifice His own Son, Jesus, so we we could have eternal life with Him in heaven.
God continues to provide for us. He gives us our family and friends, a home, food, clothing, and everything we need for this life. Most important, He give us faith to believe in Jesus as our Savior!
Bible Verse
God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering. Genesis 22:8
