The next session of “Know Your Numbers, Know Your Options,” Nebraska Extension’s four-part record-keeping course, will be held virtually from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. central time on March 15, 17, 22 and 24. Participants should plan on attending each of the four workshop dates.
This course is designed to help farmers and ranchers understand their current financial position and how big decisions like large purchases, new leases or changes in production will affect their bottom line. Participants will work through the financial statements of a case study farm, watching pre-recorded videos, completing assignments, and participating in video chats. Upon completion of this program, participants will have a better understanding of how financial records can be used to make decisions and confidently discuss their financial position with their family, business partners, and lenders.
The course fee is $20 per participant and class size is limited to 20 people. Register online at https://wia.unl.edu/know. Registration closes March 8.
Virtual 2022 Landlord/Tenant Cash Rent Workshops Scheduled for March 24, 25
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability will host two virtual 2022 cash rent workshops to address the financial resiliency necessary for agricultural operations to sustain risk while remaining profitable. The workshops will cover 2022 cash rental rates, land values, leasing strategies, landlord-tenant communication, farm and ranch succession planning and an overview of farm programs for landowners.
“Building Farm and Ranch Resiliency in the Age of Financial Uncertainty” will be presented March 24 and 25 via Zoom. The March 24 webinar will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. CDT, and is geared toward those owning and working on land in the eastern part of the state. The presentation on March 25 will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. CDT, and is aimed at those in the western and central regions.
Printed workshop materials will be mailed to the address provided on registration submissions. Please note that, if you register later than March 16, printed materials may not arrive in time for the workshop. However, a link to view digital versions of the same materials will be provided during the workshop. Register here for the eastern Nebraska workshop and here for the central/western Nebraska workshop.
Ranchers interested in learning about the latest cutting-edge research in range livestock production from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln are encouraged to register for the 2022 Nebraska Ranch Practicum offered by Nebraska Extension. The practicum will be held June 6 and 7, July 7, September 7 and 8, and November 3, 2022; and January 10 and 11, 2023. The registration fee is $675. The fee for a spouse is an additional $350. Registration covers educational materials, noon meals and breaks. Participants are responsible for travel and lodging expenses. The practicum can count for college or continuing education credit.
