@Your Library Media Center
ARE Media Center News - July 2015
Welcome ARE Staff!
Welcome to the first edition of @Your Library Media Center! We will be publishing these newsletters regularly to share important information with you.
There is A LOT in this first one but please read everything because it is all important.
Media Center Policies
- New this year - Starting next week (7/13) students in grades 1-3 may come to the library any morning between 8:45-9:05 to check out books. Please do not send more than 4 students at a time. We will encourage students to make choices quickly so others can have a turn. Students in grades 4-5 may come to the library at any time to check out books (after their intro - see section below).
- First - Fifth grade students will start checking out books during their first media class. Kindergarten students will start after a few weeks of class.
- Check Out Limits
- Kindergarten & First Grade - 1 book
- Second Grade - 2 books
- Third Grade - 3 books
- Fourth & Fifth Grade - 4 books
- Please remember – all materials that leave the media center should be checked out to the person using them. If you have problems checking something out and we are not around please leave the item with a note for me and we’ll get it to you ASAP.
- The media center operates on a partial flexible schedule. This means that we have set scheduled classes but there are also times you may schedule to bring a small group or whole class to use the media center.
- If you would like to bring your whole class to check out books or use the facilities please schedule it in advance. There is a schedule clipboard located on the check out desk. Please call or stop by in advance to get your name on the schedule and let us know how we can help you during that time.
4th & 5th Grade
Please click the link below to sign up for a time this week or next week for your students to visit the media center. I will do a quick intro (to myself and the library system) and let them check out books. You're invited to stay with your class during this time because I am introducing open circulation (yes, all day every day!) for grades 4 & 5 and that is new to everyone. If you have trouble viewing or editing the Google Doc please let me know.
Books & Resources
Any time (day or night) that you think of something you need to use in your classroom please email either Ms. Stetson (lstetson@wcpss.net) or Mrs. Angel (mangel@wcpss.net) or stop by the media center. We are happy to assist you by pulling books to meet a topic or need or by helping you navigate the media center to find what you need. FYI - all the professional resource books are now located on the left wall in the media center office.
Equipment Needs
If there is any equipment you need please let us know ASAP and we will check them out to you.
Dibels Next Kits
If you need a Dibels Next Kit please stop by the media center to check one out. If by some chance you have an extra please bring that to the media center so we can assign it to someone else.
Book Room
Please remember to check out items on the laptop before leaving the book room. There is a barcode on the box or bag for each set of books. When you bring materials back please change the laptop to Check In, scan the box or bag, and put it back on the shelf. If you need help with anything do not hesitate to ask one of us!
From the newbie (Ms. Stetson)
I am so excited to get to know and work with everyone this year! I will be teaching 1st-3rd grade on a fixed schedule (it looks like I'll see each class at least every other week). I will be working with 4th & 5th grade on a flexible schedule. (Mrs. Angel will be teaching Kindergarten)
I am available to pull books and resources to meet your curricular needs, meet with you to plan collaborative lessons and projects, and help you in any other way I can. Email is the best way to contact me (lstetson@wcpss.net), so just send me a note with what you need and I'll be happy to help!
