A Message from the Principal
The hearts of our Greeley faculty are filled with gratitude for the outpouring of kindness during teacher appreciation week. From festive food to kind notes and everything in between, our Greeley families and PTO truly went above and beyond in making sure our staff felt supported and appreciated.
It truly is a blessing to work as a member of the Greeley Community! Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Joshua Swanner
Principal
2nd Grade Bike Rodeo this Wednesday, May 10th
This event will be held in partnership with the Greeley PTO, Green Bay Cycles, Local Scout Troop 20, and the Winnetka Police Department. Second-grade students will learn principles of bike safety, navigate a simple course, and have their safety equipment checked.
Interested in Strings for next year?
It's that time of year again! Strings recruitment assemblies will be taking place this month at Crow Island, Greeley and Hubbard Woods for current 1st-3rd grade students.
Fourth grade students will have a separate assembly where they will learn more about the program at Skokie. Fourth graders can also start with any string instrument, including the string bass!! Students will be introduced to the instruments they could learn at school: violin, viola, cello and string bass (4th graders only). Registration will be via Google forms which you can access here.
If you have more than one child signing up next year, feel free to use the same form for both (all) of your children. The registration deadline will be Friday, June 10th.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to working with your children again next year!

Staying Healthy at Greeley
- Please remember to report any instances of strep throat, COVID-19, or the flu to Ms. Eilers, the school nurse.
- Students must be fever-free (below 100.4 degrees) and/or have no symptoms of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
- For students that have been diagnosed with strep throat, please be sure to follow their doctor's recommendations for returning to school once treatment has begun.
- Although students usually get sick through direct touch with one another, we are committed to cleaning our classrooms daily.
As always, thank you for partnering with our school to ensure the healthiest learning environment possible.

SPRING MAP 2023 TESTING
We are approaching our final testing window for the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test, which will take place between May 8 - 19, 2023. Your child’s school or teacher will inform you of his or her specific testing dates.
Similar to the winter, all students in Grades 3 - 8 will take one reading test and one math test. The MAP Assessment is designed to measure a student’s achievement level at different times of the school year and compute growth over time. MAP is a computer-adaptive test, which means every student receives a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions. This provides a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level.
The purpose of the third testing session is to provide an overview of a student’s growth and achievement for the school year. Spring Student Progress Reports will be mailed home on Friday, June 2nd with fall to spring growth measures. Additional information on the MAP Assessment may be found on our district website in the Assessment Section of ITL. If you need further information on your child’s testing session please contact your building principal.

Elementary Math Core Values in Winnetka D36
Communication
Communication plays an important role in our math instruction. Through communicating about their thinking, students strengthen and demonstrate their understanding. They also learn to think critically and flexibly by working to understand another’s thinking and approach. Our classrooms are filled with whole-class and small group discussions around math problems facilitated by the teacher. One of the key ways teachers respond to students’ needs for challenge or additional support is through the types of questions they ask them in these conversations. Students are frequently asked to share how they are thinking about a problem, what strategy they are using and why they chose it, and how their thinking is similar or different from their classmates. These conversations are opportunities for higher-level thinking and challenge. Not only are students asked to communicate their thinking verbally, but also to represent it visually through pictures, equations, and models. This written communication is important and challenging work. Finally, our classrooms provide continual opportunities for collaboration between students encouraging them to learn with and from one another. Through games, discussions, and partner work we strive to build a mathematical community that is simultaneously rigorous, supportive, and engaging.- Wednesday, 5/10: 2nd Grade Greeley Bike Rodeo; 4:00pm
