Amazon Future Engineering Program | Scholarship for HS Computer Science
We are thrilled to invite you to participate in the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) program to support High School computer science programs for the 21-22 school year. The Amazon Future Engineer program is Amazon's commitment to help dramatically expand access to computer science at schools nationwide.
After an overwhelming and positive response, the program is expanding to reach over 1,500 underserved high schools across the country for the 21-22 school year. As a qualifying school, you have already been issued credentials to preview course resources and we are thrilled to offer you an opportunity for an in-person information session. Schools will be accepted on a rolling basis, so we urge you to apply ASAP.
Amazon Future Engineer 21-22 Sponsorship Program
Through this program, Amazon is providing 100% financial assistance to help eligible high schools implement a 3-year computer science sequence and corresponding professional development programs in partnership with Project STEM. Schools will be able to implement foundational computer science courses, including an introductory full-year course, Computer Science Python Fundamentals, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A-Java in the 21-22 school year. A new 3-year course sequence aimed at middle schools and early high school grades are also included, with CS Explorations 1 in Scratch launching now for the 21-22 school year. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Creative Media will be rolling out in subsequent years.
Amazon’s funding will provide all curricular and teacher resources, including fully sequenced and paced digital lessons for students. Teachers will receive detailed lesson plans, professional development, and ongoing dedicated teacher support throughout the academic year.

PERRY OUTREACH PROGRAM
We’re very excited to announce an upcoming Perry Outreach Program on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at UT Health McGovern Medical School in Houston, TX. The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments.
We are now seeking applicants for our Houston, TX program. Participants should be students who gender-identify as female or nonbinary in grades 10 and up with an expressed interest in science, medicine and/or engineering. Applicants should be directed to fill out our online application in advance of the November 4, 2021 application deadline.

A.I. SCHOLARS 2021 A HIGH SCHOOL INTENSIVE IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

How can AI help us mitigate the climate crisis, trace the spread of illnesses, build self-driving cars, or identify bias in the criminal justice system? How exactly does Netflix know what your next favorite TV show is before you do? At the AI Scholars program students learn to apply an AI toolkit to tackle such real-world issues in domains they're passionate about– no prior programming experience necessary.
Through a project-based curriculum, students work under the guidance of an AI mentor from Stanford or MIT to explore the ethics and applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare, environment, law, music, astronomy and more! At the end of the course, students gain a sophisticated understanding of AI, experience applying AI to real-world datasets, and a final project they can use to enhance their college portfolio and careers.

PROJECT C.U.R.E
Please join us in saving lives by preparing medical supplies for shipment to hospitals and clinics in need around the world. Activities may include organizing warehouse inventory, sorting medical supplies, supporting administrative efforts, pulling for and loading containers, or other projects to be accomplished for the day. This will be a fun, engaging, and hands-on experience.
Project C.U.R.E. was founded in 1987 to help meet the need for medical supplies, equipment, and services around the world. Project C.U.R.E. builds sustainable healthcare infrastructure by providing the medical supplies and equipment needed to deliver healthcare in communities. Since its inception, Project C.U.R.E. has delivered medical relief to people in need in more than 130 countries.

Project C.U.R.E.’s Houston facility is located at 8303 Kempwood Drive, Houston, TX 77055. We are located in Spring Branch near the intersection of Bingle and Kempwood.
Before arriving, please review the safety guidelines in this video.
Also, please keep the following in mind:
- Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes in the warehouse.
- Please dress comfortably and wear weather appropriate clothing - the warehouse can be warm in the summer and cool in the winter.
- Some of our tasks can be physically demanding but are always optional
- Minimum age to volunteer is 15 (under 18 requires parent/legal guardian signed consent in advance).

The safety of our volunteers and staff is our top priority. We are taking all possible precautions. During your volunteer time, we will be following CDC recommendations and all volunteers and staff are required to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask and gloves. If you have your own mask, please bring it to your volunteer session. Disposable masks will be provided if needed. Please wash your hands or use hand sanitizer throughout your volunteer session. Please do not come volunteer if you are feeling ill or have been in contact with someone feeling ill. Your support in maintaining a safe facility is tremendously appreciated!
Please keep in mind the following:
- Attire: Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes. We recommend comfortable, weather-appropriate attire that you don't mind getting dusty. The warehouse is colder in winters and warmer in summers.
- Timing: Please arrive on time. You will be led by a Volunteer Leader and they will need adequate time to explain to you what will need to be done.
- Food/drink: You are welcome to bring water and small snacks with you if you wish.
- Age: The minimum age to volunteer is 14 years old; volunteers younger than 18 years old will need parent/legal guardian consent signature.
- Cancellation concern: If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration so we do not schedule staff unnecessarily.

Alison Engineering Online Courses
Select a course that interest you. Most course are 1-3 hours along working at your own pace. Once you successfully completed the course you will see a certificate of completion. Screen shot the certificate. Insert the certificate picture into the enrichment form and upload it to Schoology.
*Only one online enrichment pre semester.
Congressional App Challenge 2021
The annual Congressional App Challenge works to inspire students in congressional districts across the country through hands-on practice with coding and computer science. The contest is an opportunity for young people to cultivate their skills in these STEM disciplines and to begin thinking about their futures in any of the many American industries that will rely on emerging technologies and STEM innovation in the coming years. Finally, the competition seeks to actively include students from communities that have been underrepresented in the tech industry, and encourage them to envision a future in this important field. Deadline to submit apps is Nov 1st.

Mrs. Carter, your College and Career Advisor is available for students to seek advice in regards to postsecondary planning, assist with college applications, applying for scholarships, revise college essays, inform students about different colleges, and assist with Military recruitment. Parents are also welcome to reach out to Mrs. Carter if they have questions and concerns regarding post-secondary education/careers.
