Reardan Weekly

District Appreciation/Recognition
September 17th is National IT Professionals Day and we would like to give a huge shout out to the Reardan IT Team! As we navigate an increasingly digital world, we recognize that we literally could not do our jobs without the dedication and hard work of this team. Thank you Andrea McLaughlin, Matt Feider, and Mike Nguyen for all that you do to support our students and staff here in Reardan. Thank you for your tireless efforts, your problem-solving prowess, and your commitment to excellence. We are grateful for everything you do!
Elementary School
Picture day is Wednesday, September 18. Please check your child’s backpack for a Leo’s Photography envelope, or visit https://leosphotography.com/ and enter code FAL225497.
During enrollment and the first week of school, many documents were sent home with your child. Please sign and return the following forms: Free and Reduced Lunch Application (if applicable), Title 1 Student Compact, Bite2Go Sign-up Sheet (if applicable), and the Home Language Survey. All paperwork can be turned in at the elementary office.
We recommend that students bring a labeled water bottle to school each day, as they get thirsty throughout the day. Labeling your child’s name on coats and hoodies also helps us return lost items.
Our staff is working hard to create engaging learning environments for all students. This week, 6th-grade students played a challenging scarf game, where they had to sprint to a spot before the scarf dropped. 4th and 5th-grade ELA students participated in a "book tasting," where they explored different book genres. 5th-grade math students began their day by collaborating on a math challenge on the board. Great things are happening at Reardan Elementary!
If you are interested in volunteering, our Reardan Partners In Education (P.I.E.) group has the following opportunities:
October 11: First Popcorn Friday (held on the 2nd Friday of each month)
October 12: Movie Night in the Commons (held on the 2nd Saturday of each month)
October 19: Trunk or Treat and Carnival (please contact Amanda Wulff or email reardanpie@gmail.com)
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Lena Zagorski and her Amazon team who gifted us over $1,500 worth of school supplies. This unexpected grant will make a huge difference in the lives of students and classroom teachers.
Middle School
This week Middle School students took the STAR assessment in Ms. Koch’s room. Students are working on analyzing their assessment data and comparing it to their scores from last year. Ms. Koch is supporting students in creating goals for their winter assessment with plans to reach these goals. Talk with your student about how he or she is planning for success. One certain way to be successful is to have the best possible attendance at school–because the learning that happens inside our classrooms cannot be replicated outside of class. Students who miss more than 10% of school are considered to be chronically absent. School attendance is one of the best indicators of future success–both in school and in life. Please partner with us to ensure that your child is maintaining positive attendance. If your child is ill or has an appointment, please call the school attendance line at 509.381.1312 and leave a brief message. When planning family trips, please utilize our school calendar and avoid extended absences when possible. These types of absences must be pre-arranged with the principal, so please reach out via email to Debi Newsum dnewsum@reardansd.net We appreciate your partnership!
Middle school students got to experience the AM break this week and really enjoyed having 10 minutes to grab a snack, talk with friends and have a short recess either outside or in the HS gym. We also started our multi-grade Family Connect time this week with a 30 minute “homeroom” where students competed in a scavenger hunt with fun facts about staff members. Students will meet each Monday with their family group for games, activities, and discussions around Social Emotional Learning.
Finally, please be sure your student has returned the signed handbook page that includes the Reardan Access Card signature section (on the backside). We have access cards ready for students and will begin handing those out on Friday, 9/13/24, to students whose forms have been signed and returned to the office. Thank you for taking time to review our student handbook with your child so that everyone is aware of school expectations, policies, and procedures. If you have any questions, please reach out to Principal Newsum.

A few reminders for next week when dropping off your kids for enrichment classes:
- Continue to drop your kids off in the morning at the Commons and not at the portables on Laurel Street.
- At the end of the day, make sure that you sign your child out. The gates will open at 2:45 for pickup.
- Please make sure that your child knows they are not to walk from the Commons to the portables without an adult.
We continue to accept students into the Options Program! Feel free to contact one of our team members at (509)796-2701 ext 5 if you have any questions or would like to enroll in our program.
