Welcome To A Great 2025-2026 School Year

This newsletter has much of the information that you need as we are approaching the first day of school on Wednesday, August 27. You can contact the middle school office at 605-717-1215 with any questions starting August 4 with office hours 8am-3pm. You can click on the buttons on this page for more information on each topic.

Annual Student Information Update Instructions

  • Once logged in, select "More" on the bottom left side.
  • Then click "Online Registration". This will take you to the annual update application.
  • Select "Start", then "Begin Registration" and verify the information for each of your students.

6th Grade Band and Choir Information

6th grade students interested in band can access this link below for more information. During the school year band and choir does take the place of a student's reading in the content area/directed study class during 6th period. We encourage all 6th grade students to try band and choir. There will be an informational meeting for all 6th grade students on the first day of school during 6th period.

6th Grade Band Rental Night 4:30pm-7pm

All 6th graders planning to enroll in band can attend the band equipment rental night to talk to professionals about renting/purchasing band equipment.

6th Grade Vaccination Requirements
All 6th grade students need to have these state required vaccinations.

2025-2026 Health Forms

All health related forms are included in the electronic Annual Update that is required for all incoming and returning students. Electronic forms are available via Infinite Campus Parent Portal after mid July 2025 and must be completed before school resumes.


  • Medical or mental health conditions
  • Current Medications
  • OTC (over-the-counter) Medication Permission
  • Permission for nurse to view immunization records through SD DOH

SMS Laptop Paperwork/Payments

All students in Spearfish Middle School will be issued a laptop device to use. $25 insurance payments can be made in the middle school office. All student laptops will be checked out to the students on August 27 during their START time. All payments and paperwork need to be submitted by parents prior to August 27.

All students and parents need to read and sign these papers before getting the laptops.

Student Accident Insurance

The Spearfish School District is not responsible for any accidental injuries that occur to students while under the school’s supervision or participating in interscholastic sports.

Our School District has partnered with Student Assurance Services to give families the opportunity to purchase accident insurance for their student(s). When enrolled, this coverage provides financial assistance with your out-of-pocket medical expenses should your student sustain an accidental bodily injury.

Reasons to consider coverage for your student:

1. Your primary health insurance has a high deductible – copay – coinsurance.

2. No other insurance on your student.

3. Your student participates in a sport where unexpected injuries commonly occur.

New Student Orientation

This event is for all new students to the Spearfish School District that will be in middle school. We will have tours of the building by the Student Council and lunch for the family. If you are a new student to the Spearfish School District and will be in middle school this event is for you.

SMS Student and Parent Open House (4:30-6pm)

All parents and students are welcome to visit their teachers' classrooms during this time. Tables will be set up in the middle school commons to purchase lunch tickets (School Lunch Info), laptop payments/paperwork ($25), yearbooks ($20), and PE shirts ($10 for a new one and students can use previous PE shirts, too).

First Day of School - Student Laptop Checkout

First day of school is a Spartan dress up day. Please wear your favorite Spartan shirts. Students will receive school laptops in their START classrooms during the school day.
