From Ms. O's Desk
Welcome Back, Quetzales!
I hope you all had a wonderful and restful break with your loved ones. It’s hard to believe we’ve already made it to December, with just three weeks left before our holiday break! At Mistral, our students and staff continue to work diligently toward achieving reading proficiency, biliteracy, and socio-emotional well-being. Thank you for partnering with us on this meaningful academic journey, we couldn’t do it without your support!
We’re excited to invite you to our ELAC End-of-Year Potluck next Wednesday at 6 PM in the MUR. We loved seeing so many families at our last event and hope you’ll join us again. During the gathering, we’ll also discuss Proposition 28, which provides Arts and Music funding for our school.
Your feedback on the Outdoor Learning designs has been invaluable. If you have any additional ideas or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to add your input to our notes.
This month, we are working on the value of caring. Teaching and modeling caring to our children is essential in nurturing their social-emotional development and shaping them into compassionate, empathetic individuals. When we demonstrate kindness, understanding, and respect, we teach children how to build meaningful relationships and create a sense of community. By modeling care in our actions and words, we show them that empathy and support are core values that strengthen connections and foster a sense of belonging. This not only helps children navigate their own emotions and challenges but also equips them with the tools to positively impact the world around them.
Lastly, a quick reminder that our students will be taking their iReady Math Assessment tomorrow. Please encourage them by reminding them how proud you are of their hard work and progress this year. Let them know how important it is to take their time and do their very best.Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to our students’ success!
With Gratitude,
Claudia Olaciregui, Principal
Great News!
I have some exciting news to share: Due to the passage of Proposition 28, California schools will now receive additional funding for arts and music each year. In addition to our current arts programs, our school will soon have an additional annual budget of approximately $52,000 to spend on more arts and music experiences for students, and we need your ideas!
There will be two main ways to share your thoughts:
- Please click here for a brief survey about potential future arts programming. (The students and staff will be given similar surveys at school). This survey will be open until December 15.
- Come and hear more about Prop 28 and give input on this topic at the upcoming meeting:
- ELAC Meeting, December 11 @ 6pm in person
Your input is valued and an important part of our process. To learn more about Proposition 28, click here.

PTA Updates:
December is the last month of the year to ask your company to match your generous volunteer hours and donations made during 2024. Corporate matching is one of the easiest ways to increase the impact your donations have on our school and the community! Please submit any final match requests (including any PTA or Walkathon donations) and check with your company to see if they recognize volunteering hours as well by the end of the year! Still want to make a donation? You can do so on our website!
Check backpacks on Friday for an entry form to the Mistral PTA's bookmark design competition. Entries are due on Tuesday, December 17th!
