Home of the Jets - October 2024
From the Principal's Desk
Hello Owyhee Families!
Wow, the end of the first quarter is upon us. Itβs hard to believe we will be moving into parent teacher conferences in less than three weeks. Please keep a lookout for an email from your child's classroom teacher for conference scheduling times.
Celebrate
We have many great things to highlight from last month.
As a staff we have spent time reacquainting ourselves with your children, identifying where they are academically in order to provide instruction to meet their individual needs.
We are also spending more time this year focusing on writing in PreK-6th grade. Our end of year learning intention for the whole school is for students to confidently write with clarity and intention to show their learning. It has been amazing already as we work to identify what this looks like at all grade levels.
Our students have done a nice job revisiting and demonstrating our four core values (Teamwork, Responsibility, Respect, Being Open and Honest) throughout the day.
I do love the color changes I am able to see in the month of October. With those changes also comes cooler weather, please remind your child to layer to accommodate the brisk mornings and warming temperatures later in the day.
Fall Harvest Social and School Parade
Participating classrooms will celebrate Fall Harvest on October 31st, more to come from your childβs classroom teacher. As a friendly reminder, any food being provided for the party must be store purchased.
At 2:15 pm all participating classrooms will come out to the track for a parade walk (one loop around the track). Family and friends are welcome to line the fence on Pasadena to watch the parade. Should we have inclement weather that afternoon, we will move the parade inside. Your child may bring a costume to school to change into. They will need to be able to change into it on their own in 3-5 minutes. Costumes do need to be school appropriate. Please note that costumes that are scary, gruesome, gory or that display look like weapons will not be allowed, this also includes face paint. Masks may be worn on top of the head, but may not cover the face.
Trunk or Treat CARnival Community Social Event
We will continue to host our 3rd annual Trunk or Treat. However, this year we are adding a second component with some fun carnival games and prizes for students to win. We are looking for:
Volunteers who want to register their car as a trunk or treat vehicle and pass out candy
Volunteers to run a carnival game for 15-30 minutes.
Candy donations
If interested please see Trunk or Treat Flyer below.
Substitutes Needed
I am looking to add names to our building preferred sub list for Owyhee. As many of you are aware, one of the more difficult areas that schools are facing this year is a shortage of substitutes. If you are interested in becoming a substitute please email jeannie.rydalch@boiseschools.org or subs@boiseschools.org. Here is additional information about the process. Thank you for your consideration and I am looking forward to growing our substitute pool at Owyhee.
BSD HR Job Center: this link will take you to our job center page with additional information and resources such as instructions on how to apply.
WinOcular Workspace: this will take you to the portal to register or sign into an account. Once you are logged in, you will want to apply to the "Substitute" position and add the sub pool to your application.
Student Calendar Change
Tuesday, Nov. 5th will be a non-school day for all students (K-12). This is to accommodate the election polling stations in our schools and the general population entering our buildings. There will be more reminders about this day but I simply wanted you to have plenty of time to plan ahead.
Families, we continue to appreciate your ongoing support.
Dr. David
A Message From the Office Staff
Owyhee Parents and Guardians,
If you plan on going beyond the front desk for any reason upon entering Owyhee during school hours, you must check in at the front office and get a badge. This includes simply walking down the hall to drop off your student, dropping off an item, etc. We really appreciate your cooperation and thank you for understanding and helping support our number one priority, which is safety and security for our students.
Food and Nutrition ππ

Owyhee students are enjoying having breakfast together each day as school is starting. We are also very thankful that this year, school breakfast and lunch are free for each student to enjoy! We love our dedicated, hard-working kitchen staff and all they do for our students!

Owyhee Boundary Committee
We met as a group last week for the first time. Time was spent with an introduction of those serving on the committee, an introduction of the boundary process was provided, and beginning discussion around the boundary analysis. I would like to give a shout out to our three parents who are serving (Justin Gaupp, Megan Arrington, and Tamara King). They are doing a great job of asking great questions and being ready to be solution oriented. We appreciate you!!
Stay and Play Kickball Tournament to Support Student Well-Being
The Kade Parrish Benefit Kickball Tournament will be held October 26th in memory of Kade Parrish, a 14-year-old Boise boy who tragically took his own life on November 17, 2023. Kade was passionate about sports. By using friendly competition to raise awareness about suicide prevention and mental health, we honor his life. Funds raised will support three suicide prevention nonprofits.
This tournament serves as a powerful example of our communityβs commitment to supporting the mental health of our students, aligning with the Boise School Districtβs ongoing efforts to prioritize student well-being. By coming together, we can help foster awareness, provide support, and create a safe, caring environment for all.
For more information on programs or to register for the tournament, visit Kade Parrish Stay & Play.
*Please note that this is not a Boise School District-sponsored event. The district is simply informing the public about this important initiative.
