The Boeckman Buzz
October 13th, 2024
A Note from Principal Sage
BMS Families,
I want to thank all of the families who joined us for our learner led conferences. Last week was a wonderful opportunity for our learners to take ownership of their learning and for us to celebrate their progress together. Your presence made it all the more meaningful, and we are grateful for your engagement in this important aspect of your child's education. We will have our second night of conferences on October 15th from 3:30 - 7:00. In addition to scheduled conferences, there will also be time for drop-ins. The schedule for the night can be found here.
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who donated to our BMS fall fundraiser. As of today, we have raised $26,000! This financial support will support learning experiences, such as programs, technology, and field trips. Again, thank you so much for supporting our learning community!
Our first Parent Ambassador meeting will be on October 29th at 5:00 pm in the main office. You can enter through door 2. We will be discussing the year so far, our strategic framework, and plans to celebrate staff throughout the year.
If you are interested in joining our Friendly Presence Program, please see below for more information!
There is no school for MEA on Thursday and Friday of this week. We hope everyone has an enjoyable fall break. Over the MEA weekend, we will be taking a one week break from the Boeckman Buzz.

BMS Staff Member of the Week - Tom Auge
We are incredibly fortunate to have Tom Auge as part of our Boeckman Middle School family! As a 6th grade math teacher, Tom is a true leader and an invaluable part of our learning community. His dedication to his learners and passion for education make a huge impact on both students and staff.
We’re grateful for all you do, Tom, congratulations on being the BMS Staff Member of the Week!
BMS New Staff Highlight: Jane Weiland
What is your position at BMS: 8th grade Language Arts
What is your hometown: Edina, MN
What information would you like to share about yourself (family, interests/hobbies, college, etc.): I like to spend time outside with my husband and four kids. We walk our dog, play at the park, scooter up and down the street, and jump on the trampoline. If it's decent weather, I am looking for a chance to be outside!
What is something people are surprised to learn about you: I like to microwave my ice cream. It's just like soft serve then! My family gave me a hard time about this at first, but now they are hooked, too!
What excites you the most to work at BMS: It is clear Boeckman Middle School is a special place with a welcoming culture for students and staff. I am happy to be a part of it.
What is your favorite memory from Middle School: Middle school choir was consistently one of the highlights of my day. Mr. H, my choir teacher all three years, had a big voice, a big heart, and lots of neck ties. He made my days enjoyable and full of music. In 7th grade, I had a short solo at one of our concerts. I was so nervous that I practically collapsed on stage, and I swear my stomach felt like it was going to flip inside out. After my performance, Mr. H gave me a huge high-five and made me feel like a rockstar. Teachers like Mr. H are the reason I wanted to become a teacher myself.
What is one big goal you have for this school year: I want to sprinkle some fun into every day. When I am having fun teaching, students are having more fun learning. My energy feeds them, and their energy feeds me.
BMS Book Fair
The Boeckman Book Fair is going on from October 8th to October 15th. The Book Fair will be open during conferences. Students will also be coming down during the school day in their LA classes if they would like to purchase books. Students can pay for books in cash or use their ‘e-wallet’ for cashless purchases. Please visit our Book Fair website to put money in your student’s e-wallet account or to make an online purchase.
Friendly Presence Program
Farmington Community,
We are looking for family and community volunteers to be present at Boeckman Middle School through our BMS Friendly Presence Program. We are excited to offer this volunteer opportunity and welcome the larger Farmington community into BMS. We are hoping many of you take this opportunity to be involved in our learners’ experience. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete this google form.
We want to create opportunities for you to support our youth here at Boeckman Middle School. The time commitment is very flexible and we are only building the volunteer bank at this time. Please consider joining us on a regular basis or a couple of times a year to be part of the BMS Friendly Presence Program.
When volunteering for Friendly Presence you might do any of the following.
Be in the halls between and during classes
Eat lunch with learners
Assist teachers in providing learning opportunities
Helping learners with coursework and/or time management
Help create positive messages around the building
Learner and staff appreciation events
You will be able to pick your times and share with us the activities you would be interested in and comfortable with while being a presence in our building. We want to find volunteer opportunities that fit your schedule and talents. If you have ideas or talents to share with Friendly Presence, let us know and we’ll work on creating that opportunity for you.
All volunteers will attend a short meeting to introduce Friendly Presence and complete our district’s background check. We will offer training multiple times at the beginning of the year and throughout the year.
We can’t wait to continue to build our community partnerships and have you in the building. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at 651-460-1400.
We will begin the program and trainings for this after the MEA break.
