Elementary Highlights
5th Grade Learns About Weather
The Fifth Grade wrapped up their Natural Disasters Module for reading and had Patrick Thomas, Meteorologist from KREM 2 TV in to teach students about weather.
Dress For Winter Weather
As the weather continues to change, we wanted to remind you to dress your child in layers to ensure they stay comfortable throughout the school day. Mornings can be chilly, but temperatures often rise by the afternoon, so layering is a great way to keep kids cozy and ready for anything!
Additionally, please remember to write your child’s name on their sweatshirts, jackets, and other outerwear. This small step helps us return lost items to their rightful owners. Without names, items often end up in our overflowing Lost and Found!
Fall Conferences
We also want to remind you that Fall Conferences are scheduled for:
Monday, November 25th – 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Tuesday, November 26th – 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM
You can schedule a conference time with your child’s teacher through Skyward Family Access or contact the elementary office at (509) 796-2511 for assistance.
Upcoming Events:
November 25-26: No School due to Fall Conferences
November 27-29: No School for Thanksgiving Break
Middle School Highlights
Middle School Girls’ Basketball is off to a great start. Our girls are working hard along with Coach Krupke and Coach Sprecher. It is great to see their growth from last year to this year. Check the calendar on our website for games and join us in cheering on our players!
Speaking of sports, did you know that playing racket sports is a workout for your brain as well as your body? Studies have shown that activities like tennis, pickleball and badminton improve the brain’s processing speed, decision making, and also reduces stress–keeping young minds sharp and resilient. Students in our Physical Education classes are working on a unit in badminton currently and having lots of fun with that.
In other health news, Mrs. Hamilton’s Family and Consumer Science classes are working on a health and nutrition unit. Students worked in groups to plan a balanced meal that included all of the food groups. They chose a recipe and then created a shopping list and worked cooperatively to cook their meal. Students enjoyed tacos, spaghetti, tomato soup with grilled ham and cheese, and even elk tacos. They had one class period to prepare and enjoy their meal and also clean their kitchen afterwards. Their cooperative learning was impressive.
First quarter report cards were mailed out on Thursday, November 14th. Please contact Christina in the HS office if you do not receive yours in the next few days. Along with the report cards are students’ fall data sheets with details about assessment scores, attendance, and more. Please take a look at the report card and data report and decide if you would like to schedule a conference with your child and all of their teachers as a group, or if you would like to drop in and visit with a few teachers individually. We are scheduling conferences for the mornings on November 25th and 26th, and holding open the late afternoon and evening hours for drop-in conferences at your convenience. Please email Principal Newsum if you would like to schedule a conference or discuss any other school concerns. dnewsum@reardansd.net
