Message from a staff member:
We would like you to use your Weekly platform to get the word out about grades and the importance of attendance and make-up work for these last few weeks. Parents and students need to be reminded that while there is a lot going on, and many students will be pulled away from school for a variety of reasons, assignments, projects, and in-class work is still taking place. The students are responsible for this work - even if they are gone. Communication is paramount. Students who know they will be absent need to check in with their teachers (in person or via email). Our staff is willing to work with these students.

We are quickly wrapping up state testing and want to thank our parents for ensuring great attendance on our testing days. I want to thank our amazing middle school team for their hard work and efforts in getting students ready for their assessments with fun review games, and especially Ms. Koch and Mrs. Vesneske for providing hearty breakfasts for our students on testing days! We have tried to make these days fun for our students with breakfast, social time, and extra recess time. Thank you also to our P.I.E. group for providing testing snacks! Math SBA will be next week, and that will wrap up our state testing for this spring. Coach Dorrel has our middle school students riding bikes and learning bicycle safety now that the weather has turned nice. Many of our students living in rural areas don’t have a lot of bike riding experience, but they are having a great time learning!
Our secondary students put on an AMAZING band concert this past Wednesday under the direction of Mr. Billy Taylor. We are now hard at work practicing for our upcoming parades. Come support our band students at either the Lilac or Mule Days parades.

Elementary Updates
Our monthly Fire Safety Fridays came to a thrilling end last week with a grand finale that left students beaming with joy. The true highlight was when staff and students climbed aboard an actual fire truck from our local fire department. Participants also had the incredible opportunity to spray the powerful fire hose, just like real firefighters. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our local firefighters who made this possible and helped ignite lasting memories for our students and staff. It was an unforgettable experience that combined learning about fire safety with hands-on excitement.
Congratulations to Amelia who earned lunch with Ms. Mikelson and Henry who earned being principal for the day. These students were the winners of our kindness challenge that took place during March and April.
On Monday, a representative from the Mule Days committee will be visiting elementary classrooms to talk about the Mule Days Kiddie Parade. The parade will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 am. We encourage children to come and, if interested, participate in the parade. Free entry forms are required for each child that participates.
We are excited to host a Read-A-Thon at Reardan Elementary School!
The Read-A-Thon is for grades K-6 and runs May 20th through June 3rd. However, please sign your students up now! The kids should have already brought home a flyer with their specific classroom information. For reading minutes to be counted towards classroom competitions, the student must be signed up on the program. (In-class reading counts too, and there will be prizes for the most minutes read!) Sign up is quick and easy to do! Check out this tutorial to see just how easy: https://youtu.be/12tmuXH8zCg
We all know reading is essential for our students to learn and grow, and we want them to stay engaged as the school year winds down. The Read-A-Thon is a fun way to keep them inspired to read, and to give them a way to help earn new playground/outdoor equipment they have been asking for! (A basketball hoop and additional playground equipment are their biggest requests.)
We need your support! We are hoping for 100% participation from our families. There are a few ways you can help:
- Signing your student(s) up so their reading minutes count towards class totals!
- Sharing the Read-A-Thon link with family and friends. (The school gets 80% of the donations!)
- Encouraging your student(s) to read.
Your involvement makes a difference!! Let's make this our best fundraiser ever!
