Vol. 13: November 11 - November 15, 2024
Principal Pinto's Message
Dear North Davis Community:
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. As we enjoy the extra day this weekend, let's take a moment to honor and thank those who have served. A special thank you to our very own Darrin Hunter for his service. The dental assembly was informative and fun. Thank you Nurse Amanda for organizing it.
Parent teacher conference week : Please make sure you have responded to your student's teacher and scheduled your conference. Students are dismissed at 11:55 AM. Here is the NDE Fall Conference Week Letter. The fall schedule along with dismissal information for all students is linked below.
Youth Truth Survey: Please take a few minutes to click on the button below and provide your feedback. ALL parents at NDE are invited to take this. This is an important piece that guides our work. Thank you to the 51 families (12%) that have taken it so far. Our goal is 80% participation rate this year! The information is linked below. We appreciate your participation!
This week, there are a number of events that we would love to see you...DJUSD Pep Talk and the Solar Project Outreach. Please encourage your student to participate in Mirror Day on Friday.
Looking for ways to volunteer...sign up to help at the Book fair or provide treats for our staff during conference week.
Thank you for all you do make NDE so special!
Go Dolphins!!

Mirror Day - Spirit Day - This Friday! - brought to you by NDE Student Council
Spirit Day! This Friday, November 15th, is Mirror Day, where students can come to school dressed to match one or more friends. Identical hats? Matching shirts? The same hairstyle? Get creative and have some fun!
From our Counselors - Ms. Cook and Ms. Perry
Hello NDE Community,
We all want to help our kids when they are struggling with problems with school, peers, difficult experiences or any number of things. Figuring out how to best do that isn’t always obvious (and kids have a way of letting us know when our best efforts are not working). I hope you can join us for the next online event of DJUSD’s Parent Empowerment Program.
PEP Talk on Wed., Nov. 13 from 6pm-7:30pm.
Topic: Validation
It almost sounds too simple, but validating is an essential part of helping our kids successfully deal with challenges. The PEP Talk will cover what validation is, what is it not, and how to use it with our kids and others. You'll also get some pointers on how to better validate, as well as hear some reasons why it is more effective to validate rather than continue to talk past each other. Presented by Tom Harrer from the Auburn Davis Center for DBT. Link to register: https://bit.ly/PEPTalk-Validation

“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting, and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.”
Roald Dahl (British novelist, short-story writer, poet, screenwriter, and wartime fighter pilot)
See you soon in the Library.

- Acknowledging the positive behavior
- Responding to problem behavior - it’s complicated!
- Using data to make decisions, make changes, and adjust systems
