Pierce Park's Student Handbook
Pierce Park's Emergency Response Procedures
Welcome to 2025!
Many students received cell phones and smart watches over break. Please help your student remember or learn the expectations for these devices at Pierce Park. This information can be found in the Pierce Park's Student Handbook and is listed below.
Cell Phones/Smart Watches
Students are expected to keep cell phones and smart watches turned off when on school property. This includes recess, lunch and on the playground. Misuse of cell phones or smart watches may result in the phone or watch being turned into the office to be picked up at the end of the day. Please call the office (208)854-5880 if you need to get a message to your student.
We have many fun activities this month to create a sense of welcoming, belonging and connectedness at Pierce Park.
- Fridays: Wear Panther Gear Competition
- January 24th: Family Fun Friday
- January 27-31: STEAM Week presented by PTO
- STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. This week long event combines the arts with STEM to encourage creativity and innovation. Art has been added this year. Information was sent home before break but will be shared with students next week.

Protecting your child in the digital world:
Many parents believe that their child is unlikely to be affected by online dangers, but the reality is that cyberbullying, sextortion, and sexting are threats that can impact any child. The Boise School District is hosting an important event to help parents understand these risks and how to protect their children. A guest speaker from Homeland Security’s Know2Protect program and a panel of experts will share valuable insights on these issues. Join us at South Junior High on January 29th from 5:30-7:30 pm to learn how to keep your child safe online. Free childcare is available until capacity is reached so RSVP soon! Check out the flyer for more details!
Building a Bridge to Better Behavior
Join us at Whitney Elementary on January 30th from 5:30-7:00 pm for a parent workshop provided by Dr. Michelle Alden. She will share valuable insights and practical tips for parenting children who are wired differently, including those with executive functioning challenges, ADHD, Autism, and/or Dyslexia. Childcare will be provided, but space is limited, so RSVP soon! Please see the flyer for more details.
Brrrrrrr!!! It's cold outside!
Happy New Year! As we start the second half of the school year, I want to remind everyone of some important health tips and updates. I’m here to support the health and well-being of your child, and together, we can make this year a great one.
Cold and Flu Season
The winter months often bring cold and flu season. Here are a few ways to help prevent illness:
- Wash hands regularly: Encourage your child to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Cover coughs and sneezes: Teach your child to cover their mouth and nose with their elbow or a tissue to prevent the spread of germs.
- Stay home when sick: If your child has a fever, persistent cough, or is feeling unwell, please keep them home to prevent spreading illness to others. (See our Illness policy link below)
- Flu vaccines: It’s not too late to get you or your child vaccinated against the flu. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have questions.
Winter Weather Reminders
With the cold weather, we want to make sure students are staying safe and comfortable during recess:
- Dress in layers: Make sure your child wears appropriate clothing for the weather, including hats, gloves, and warm coats.
- Dry shoes and socks: Wet shoes and socks can lead to cold feet and potential frostbite. A spare set of dry clothes may be helpful.
- Recess: Unless there is extreme weather, we try to go outside for fresh air. Please ensure your child is prepared for outdoor play. If you need help with certain items, let us know.
I will be conducting scoliosis screenings on girls in 5th grade in the upcoming weeks. You will be notified of any positive findings. If you would like to opt out of screenings, please contact me.
Let's all stay healthy this season!

Not Feeling Well?
Follow Illness Procedure
Staying home when a person has symptoms of illness protects the school community by preventing the spread of illness and allows the person experiencing symptoms of illness the opportunity to rest and recover. If you're not feeling well, please follow the Boise School District Illness Procedure before entering any school or workplace.
