KIDS STEM NIGHT
We're excited to extend a warm invitation to you and your family for an evening of discovery and excitement at the Lithia Springs High School STEM Magnet Program's KIDS STEM Night! This event is completely FREE! Mark your calendars for May 8th, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. as we transform the LSHS Cafe into a hub of scientific exploration and innovation.
Our primary goal for this event is to spark the curiosity and passion for STEM in elementary-age children by providing them with hands-on, interactive activities. With the support of volunteers from various school organizations, including STEM, FBLA, Key Club, and SGA, we've curated an exciting lineup of STEM experiences for attendees to enjoy.
Event Details:
Date: May 8th, 2024
Time: 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M
Location: LSHS Cafe
Highlights of the Evening Include:
- Slime-Making Station: Dive into the world of chemistry and polymers as you create your own colorful concoction of slime.
- Elephant Toothpaste: Witness the wonders of chemical reactions with our exciting demonstration of foamy elephant toothpaste.
- Popsicle Stick Catapult: Explore principles of physics and engineering by constructing and testing your own popsicle stick catapult.
- Drone Demonstrations: Experience the future of technology with live demonstrations showcasing drone capabilities and their applications in various fields.
- Coding & Microbit Stations: Delve into the world of coding and programming with hands-on activities using Microbits, fostering computational thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Giant Piano: Step onto our giant piano and discover the intersection of music and technology as you create melodies with your feet.
Additionally, we are thrilled to introduce an exciting Marshmallow Tower Competition at KIDS STEM Night! This engaging activity challenges participants to unleash their creativity and engineering skills as they construct the tallest freestanding tower using only marshmallows and toothpicks. It's a fantastic opportunity for students to apply principles of structural stability, problem-solving, and teamwork in a fun and interactive way. Prizes will be awarded to the teams with the tallest and most stable towers, inspiring friendly competition and camaraderie among participants. Don't miss out on the chance to test your building prowess and claim the title of Marshmallow Tower Champion!
We are also thrilled to announce the possibility of a live powerline demonstration, courtesy of Greystone Power, offering a firsthand look at electrical engineering and safety practices.
Our STEM students are eagerly looking forward to sharing their passion for STEM and creating a dynamic learning environment for the attending children. Each station will have a specific focus, allowing students to explore different aspects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Please scroll down to find the event flyer below.

Clear Bag Policy at All Athletic Events
DCSS has a clear bag policy at all sporting events. The policy is similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums.
"The clear bag policy will help us keep dangerous or illegal items, including weapons, out of our venues," said Superintendent Trent North. "By allowing only clear bags, we can monitor what's coming into our stadiums and gyms and keep everyone safer with only minor inconvenience to those in attendance."
The following types of bags will be permitted inside DCSS sporting events:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12"x6"x12"
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags
- Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5"x6.5"
No outside food or drink will be permitted. Bottled water will be acceptable under special circumstances. Thank you in advance for adhering to this policy.
